I think ebay caused most of these drops. I remember there used to be one Rickey RC in town with a bent corner for $70. Now you can get them for less than $10 on ebay...

+1

Now instead of hoping your local shop has a Don Mattingly RC.... you can search eBay and find tons available and in all grades. You want a PSA 8 just to have a nice card.... you got it.... wanna spend more and get a Gem Mint... you got it.

i think ebay caused most of this howard won a WS so he is even getting better but his cards r going down but u have to wonder since ebay was around during howards whole career maybe the best time to sell is at call up like chrome prospects so we are seeing it before but feel we havnt so we have, so sell chromes at call up to make the most coin

EXACTLY! I have to say that although Ebay is a great tool (probably "THE" best tool thus far ever introduced to the card collecting world, heck make that the "entire" collecting/hobby world), it probably destroyed market & sell value for modern/vintage to modern card's (stuff from the over-produced era..where did it start the 70's up until somewhat recently?)... The producer's of the card industry have pretty much taken notice & reduced production (for the most part) & now Ebay really "helps" SV.

An ex. would be prospecting, as I can almost guarantee you that the world of prospecting, as we know it, would've NEVER come to pass if not for Ebay (heck, the B.Chrome line probably would've deflated not long after it hit the hobby)! The local shop's would still be open but they'd glance at prospect's from our pack's and yell: "DUD"!

Anyhow, let me get back on subject (here's the card's I can't believe dropped):

-Mark McGwire 85 Topps
-Frank Thomas 90 Leaf
-Barry Sanders 89 Score
-Nolan Ryan Topps Stadium Club "Tuxedo"
-Bo Jackson Score Supplemental "Pose w/Bat & Shoulder Pads"
-Nolan Ryan 91 Donruss Diamond Kings Error (I think it was this card, all I remember is back then I was 11 or 12 & this was a HUGE card that I had always wanted but never was able to afford or hit in a pack for my N.Ryan collection)
-Gary Shefield 89 UD Reverse Neg Rc
-Jeff Bagwell/Frank Thomas Pinnacle "Team Pinnacle" (I LOVED this card but could never afford it back then)
-Kevin Mitchell 87 Topps
-Jose Canseco 86 Fleer (I hit it in a pack around 1989 in my local shop, I was 10-11 yrs old, & everyone went nuts but I didn't realize what it was worth...I believe it had Eric Plunk on it too? )

There are many more but these came to mind first. :D
