I'll buy 2 or 3 boxes to use for TTM/IP autograph opportunities.

i said 2010 would be my last year buying Bowman/BC/BDPP, now not sure. I put myself down for a case like normal (jumbo always). Looks like they are doing the Stras with Harper this year and saving his Chrome auto for the true BC release in the fall.

should change the poll, Hobby vs Jumbo

I know I will try and get more jumbo but most of the time its 2 to 1.

as in 2 hobby cases for every 1 jumbo

2010 : Strasburg :: 2011 : Harper

Now the important question. Last year I was able to lock into 4 Jumbo and 2 Hobby at an average of 800 and 675 give or take $50.

2010 Jumbos : 800 :: 2011 : 1000?
2010 Hobbies : 675 :: 2011: 800?

To sit here and expect that 2011 Bowman will anywhere near duplicate the pricing success of 2010 Bowman would be ridiculous. I like Harper, everyone does, but part of the success of 2010 Bowman was an INCREDIBLY strong auto checklist (Teheran, Ackley, Rizzo, Franklin, Green, Myers, Castro, Heathcott, Iglesias, Jackson, Tate). The 2011 checklist is nice, but nowhere near as strong.

Keep in mind 2010 Bowman had a few last-minute additions to the auto CL which added value to it, most notably Heyward and Castro.

Time to sell those Harper AFLACs.

Why??

Heyward had all sorts of autos before his draft aflac release and it was his strongest auto.

Jim you said it all. The checklists are night and day and Strasburg mania was in full swing. Harper mania will not be near that hype at all. He already has a ton of stuff out. That 2010 was a once in decade type event. Aint gonna happen here.

Basically what I was going to say.

This auto checklist really doesn't do much for me, though there are some TBD's left to fill.

The other thing I neglected was the presence of Harper in the USA chromes in 2010. To those that busted around 12 cases, the chromes and refractors returned about a case worth of value, let alone if you pulled better color.

2011<<<<<<2010

The margin is substantial.

Plus, Topps doesn't want to duplicate what happened in 2010. They told me to my face in Baltimore at the National that what happened with that product was a mistake. They don't ever want to see a product explode like that.

Okay...so I said I was done ripping wax...but I don't know if I can control myself. Both 2011 Topps Series 1 and 2011 Bowman are very compelling products. I agree 2010 was a perfect storm. And compared to 2011 so far, it "shouldn't" explode the same way. But did people really expect 2010 to blow up the way it did?

That's my only concern. You sit here thinking, "No way it's going to happen again" so you wait for the hype to die down and the prices to drop. Then something unforseen happens and now it's too expensive to rip.

I guess if it's meant to be, it will be? I hope so, because I'd like for the prices to be "normal". I might be in for 2 cases if it doesn't go crazy.

Curious, I missed 2010 Bowman. What was the lowest price 2010 Bowman Hobby/Jumbo hit last year? What was the average price before it blew up?

I'll buy some when it goes live as opposed to wasting money on pre-ordering. If it's anything like 90% of the Topps products from 2010 it will be most expensive during pre-ordering and will plummet in value upon release.
