Not trying to argue but that has nothing to do with this thread^ Maybe start another thread if you want to talk about the luxury tax. This is about Tanaka not about luxury tax spending.
The only thing we are debating (myself and you gmsieb) is that you seem to think that the Angels have a very similar chance with the Yanks to sign Tanaka which is just false. The Angels are much more into Garza at this point as has been reported by most media outlets and with tanaka likely to eclipse 100 million there's much doubt that the Angels will want to pay that and get that payroll even higher than it is since they have flopped for years in a row.
Since the Yankees will not get under the tax this year (they were close and probably could've done it had they not gone after Ellsbury AND Beltran) there is no point in them holding back on Tanaka which you seem to think will still happen.
If ARod is suspended for the whole year then I think there is 100% chance that Tanaka ends up in NY. If ARod isn't suspended and his salary count then I think the figure drops to around 50-60%.
