More Rays arguments. I was originally going to put down Crawford but I thought I would be hounded by Longoria fans. I'm still leaning Crawford.

If you're going just on the current Nationals, I'd say Zimmerman.

If you're going to add the Expos/Senators/whoever for whatever reason, obviously there are more deserving.

#1 pick turning into a Superstar. Huge fan favorite.

Nobody they've drafted is bigger yet (Strasburg aside). And only other big names they've gotten have been Dunn and Pudge.

Add a few more

Dodgers- Jackie Robinson. I can understand a case for Duke, Koufax or Drysdale.
Astros - Biggio. Cases can be made for Bagwell and Ryan but I pick Biggio since he is home grown. I know there were some bad feelings when Ryan left.
Mets - Seaver, no question.
Rays - Carl Crawford.
Jays - Halladay.
Nationals - If you consider them the old Senators(which I do), Frank Howard. If you consider them Expos, Vlad.
White Sox - Frank Thomas.

I personally understand all that.

But someone already put Walter Johnson up for the Nats, so I was trying to be clear on what was being asked.

If I'm reading correctly what is being asked, I'd go by just the current incarnations of all the teams.

It's super interesting to see what people put Nolan Ryan down for. If anything he should be there as an Angel. His most dominating seasons certainly were with California.

I can see the argument for the Rangers as he is the face there now, but you can certainly make cases for the Angels and Astros.

You've forgotten about Rod Carew with the Angels. The Nationals/Expos would be Gary Carter. George Bell deserves some love for the Blue Jays. He was their key player throughout the 80s. Joe Carter played on numerous teams and was only a Blue Jay for a short time.

Andre Dawson is right up with Carter as well. Really a flip of the coin imo.


Blue Jays is interesting because imo there isn't just one player that stands out way above the others. They've had several players that really could be considered the face of the franchise all time. Joe Carter? Tony Fernandez? George Bell? Fred McGriff? Kelly Gruber? Dave Stieb? Robbie Alomar? Halladay?

So I thought this would be fun. I know there may some arguing between members but let's try and make this civilized. Name the ONE player (past or present) that is/was that teams player. Sort of like when you think of that team this ONE person IS that team. We'll keep it to todays teams but I may forget a franchise moving from place to place.

While I agree that Ryan is probably the most "known" Ranger of all time (and I love Ryan by the way), that was not what this thread is referring to. It is to identigy the player (not owner) who most embodies the franchise. The Rangers never even went to the postseason with Ryan. That is why I have to say it is a tossup between Juan Gonzalez and Ivan Rodriguez.

Although in a couple of more years, the answer could easily change to Michael Young.

As a lifelong Tigers fan, I wholeheartedly agree.

I can appreciate you guys are true fans but there is no way Cobb is not the Tigers. Any time you play that long for a team and are that utterly dominating/game changing you have got to get the nod. Kaline was fantastic, though.

I'm not sure it matters that Cobb was obviously the best player in the team history. I'd also say Kaline might be the face of the team. Although, it might just be that no one alive remembers Cobb.
