A recent pick-up that the seller identified as:

The Sports Collectors Digest Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards lists this type of photo as a 1940s-50 Anonymous {a black and white photo with white boarder and name in script on glossy photo stock.}

This is the same image as the 1947 Homogenized Bond Bread Cards and 1946-49 Sports Exchange W603 (all of which I have as well).

Anyone know if the seller's identification of this picture/card is correct?

2 Bond Bread cards-

46-49 Sports Exchange-
46SportsExchangeWilliams.jpg

The large photo is called a 1947 Bond Bread Premium in catalogs. The checklist is the exact same as the 1947 D305 Bond Bread cards (rounded corners) and the 1950's W571 cards (square corner).

PS the original square corner cards known as W571's were issued in a boxed set in the early 1950's (like Berk Ross or R316's) and 1/2 the set (including Williams) was found in a warehouse in 1980 in a large hoard. There are also more modern reprints of the sq. corner cards that are lacking the quality of the originals.

I especially like the PS Tom. Very nice. I plan to add one (or more) to my collection, when the time and price is right.

Thanks, I have Williams, Mantle, Duke Snider, and Pee Wee Reese displayed side by side. All from the 1989 set. I've been tempted to purge a fair portion of my collection and specialize in the PS slabbed auto's Sooooo.... tempting!

Thanks!! Guess I gotta check out your collection more Tedw9 ;)

I still have several very expensive vintage Williams to some day try and acquire. In particular the 39 Goudey Premium and the 54 Wilson Franks will be tough.

I try to keep my collection pre-1980 as I would go crazy trying to find the "modern" Teds.

Thank you Dave!! The PS's are gorgeous in person. The scans do not do them justice. I believe there is one more potential signed PS that he has, the 1985.

Hope you are well. Go Sox!! ;)

Very cool thread. It's definitely inspired me to save up a few bucks and go after one of those 1950 Bowman's.
