The rich just got richer. Tex and Boras both.

The Yanks did what they do best.

And all three parties remain blissfully ignorant of the truth.

All the money in the world won't buy you championships, loyalty or morale.

Bingo.

All you can do is smile.

Money cannot buy a championship. Baseball just doesn't work that way.
haha. money doesnt buy a championship, but pitching does. Sabathia, ****, Burnett, Chamberlain...

**** is the difference maker. If he does bad spankees finish in 3rd if he does average they finish in 2nd/3rd if he does good 1st/2nd(This is in their division).

C.C. cant/wont have a better season the Moose had last year.Burnett is another Andy and Joba will do what he did last year which wont make much of a difference in the overall record. If **** wins 16 plus the spankees win the division If he doesnt they are were they were last year.
those are some bold statements. It's hard to predict these things before spring training even starts. The Red Sox offense will be the same without Manny for a whole season? Papi doesn't have the same protection. Will the Rays win 97 games again? I doubt it, but anything can happen. The Yankees miss the playoffs once since 1995 and now they suck? For once in a very long time..the Yankees have a legit ace. ;)

It is pathetic because they didn't make the playoffs with the highest payroll ever. It has nothing to do with hating the Yankees at that point. There was no excuse to not make the playoffs with that payroll. Any idiot off the street should be able to make the playoffs with a team payroll almost double every other teams.

as for the guy comparing the yankees signing tex to the nationals signing tex... you arent even worth responding to if you seriously think they are in the same boat.[/quote:3i7mtakv]

in a way, you just responded to this person

This is an AMAZING off-season for the Yankees. One of the best ever?

Depends wether or not you think Tex will be worth $31.5 mill/season. With the luxery tax he brings it comes out to something like $1.40/dollar they pay him, making his annual salary (including the tax) $31.5 mill/season. They could buy an entire All-star team if the felt like spending the money. I wouldnt judge the greatness of an offseason by just going out and buying the top 3 free agents, especially before we see if CC and Burnett can stay healthy.

This is the what have you done for me now era.

And all the Yankees have done is NOTHING since 2000 (their last WS win, as you should know).

Continually shouting "26 RINGS!!! 26 RINGS!!!" gets old. Probably because people forget how everyone has been alive long enough to have supported the Yankees for EVERY single one of those rings.

You had the 20th century.

Baseball gets the 21st.

Enjoy the golfing in October. I hear Florida is nice.

so making the playoffs every year except for last doesn't mean anything. I mean yes, they are stacked, but don't say they haven't done anything, even if their goal is to win it all, like every other team. I think they will contend this year. How can people even say they won't do anything or pull the "baseball gets the 21st" because it's not all about bashing the Yankees. Hate them or not, they have one of the best lineups in baseball on paper.

It's not so much that their payroll is down from last year. It's more about the fact that the system is so screwed up that they can sign the top 4 free agents, and basically screw 3 of teams in the process who probably thought they were getting a 1st round compensation pick.

I'm not really a fan of the cap, but something has to be done to make the game more competitive. I think the best way would be to make a minimum team salary you have to meet. Or require the money given in luxury tax to be spent on improving the team's roster.

Something fair would be to take the tax money given to lets say KC, and make them spend it on FA or resigning a star. Then if there isn't one they want in a given year, the money goes into a pot within their team that can't be used for profit. Then the next year when they get more tax money given to them it too gets added with whatever was not spent the previous year. Eventually, either they pay for good players or they sit on it and get a star after 3 years or so of waiting and building their pot.

If something like this was put in place it would make teams have to rethink whether spending a ton and getting taxed was worth the chance KC or whoever might actually be a player in FA talks.

Overall though, you never know in baseball who will win it all. It's going to be hard to compete all year in the AL east, but for those not in there they have a shot come playoff time. All it takes is 2-3 good pitching performances to knock someone out in the playoffs. LAA has a staff that could do it if they played up to their talent.

lmfao, thats always a yankee fans comeback. "26 world series rings!1!!ONE11!!11!" not anywhere close to jealous. if my favorite team, the braves, did this i would boycott them. luckily, my team isn't full of idiots and instead of paying millions upon millions to scrubs like carl pavano they bring them up through their own farm system (which worked pretty well considering their string of division titles...a record). 26 rings means nothing in this decade, pal. what DOES mean something is coming in 3rd place in your division despite having the largest payroll in mlb history!

Too bad baseball isn't played on paper.

All sports are about is winning championships. If all that mattered was making the playoffs, most Cubs fans would NEVER be on the verge of hurting themselves (I keed, I keed Cubs fans....but seriously). They spend $400 million in the offseason to win a championship, not make the playoffs.

No one remembers the team that didn't win it all ;)

And no, I don't consider the making the playoffs anything, if you don't win it all.

And, outside of rooting for the Astros, all I have time to do is hate on the Yankees ;)

Gonna make it easy to trade CC in my dynasty fantasy baseball league this next season.

You'd be more surprised by the sheer amount of people who know think nothing happened before 2000 ;)

Plus, if someone was only 12 years years old, they would have been born in '96. I am 23 and i don't remember ANYTHING from the year I was born ;)

I'd say if they were 18 or older, their memory would be a little better ;)

Either way......since the NEW century has started, the richest team in baseball has no rings to show for all of the money they throw around.

Yankee haterade. I make it. I serve it. I drink it.

**** the Yankees ;)

And one can argue that the team that one all those rings is nothing like what the team is like today. Back then it was role players, mixed in with home grown talent, mixed in with a couple superstars. Now it's just go out and sign the best free agents every season to long term deals that will crush the team near the end of the contracts.

"26 rings" is kind of lame. I'm a Celtics fan and I don't go around throwing out "17 rings" because they've been miserable in recent memory before last year. I also was not alive or did not care about sports during most of them.

That team was still the Yankees though ;)

I will add, that the mid to late 90's Yankees teams should be lookedt as, in my own opinion, the perfect way to build a team.

The Red Sox did it and have two titles this decade to show for it.

Exactly! I'm a Sox fan and I have nothing but respect for how the Yankees did it in the 90's. I'm also very happy that the Red Sox are now doing what the Yankees did then, and the Yankees still haven't figured it out.
