The Yankees have definitely been a bright spot in this recession for cardboard investors. (The $325 was mine.) :)

Money cannot buy a championship. Baseball just doesn't work that way.
haha. money doesnt buy a championship, but pitching does. Sabathia, ****, Burnett, Chamberlain...

**** is the difference maker. If he does bad spankees finish in 3rd if he does average they finish in 2nd/3rd if he does good 1st/2nd(This is in their division).

C.C. cant/wont have a better season the Moose had last year.Burnett is another Andy and Joba will do what he did last year which wont make much of a difference in the overall record. If **** wins 16 plus the spankees win the division If he doesnt they are were they were last year.
those are some bold statements. It's hard to predict these things before spring training even starts. The Red Sox offense will be the same without Manny for a whole season? Papi doesn't have the same protection. Will the Rays win 97 games again? I doubt it, but anything can happen. The Yankees miss the playoffs once since 1995 and now they suck? For once in a very long time..the Yankees have a legit ace. ;)

CC replaced ****, Burnett replaces Pettitte, **** should be solid, and who knows what you're going to get from Joba. It's really not a dominant rotation.

Give me Boston, Tampa, and maybe Chicago any day.

**** in 06 wasn't an ace? Unit in 05? Clemens in 03? Clemens and Mussina 01? All ace numbers. CC had a nice run last year but when was the last time he won a LCS game? He is less proven than the Unit, Clemens and Mussina when they were acquired.

Red Sox will have a healthy Ortiz and Lowell, two things they didn't have last year. Even Drew missed time and Lowrie played with a fk'ed up wrist. To say that their lineup won't be as good is a bold statement in itself.

I understand that CC is better than Moose, but he won't get more wins than Moose did. It's really just replacing his production.

Good for the Yanks because if you've got it you might as well spend it! Their biggest problem I can see will be the manager. Torre had a way of keeping all these big egos in check and I just don't see Girardi being the guy to blend all these personalities together.

Also to the person who thought this was a Boras move I disagree. This now severely narrows the options for Manny. Basically it Anaheim or LA and they have the leverage at this point. Had Tex gone to Boston, Manny could have possibly had a longer and more lucrative contract with the Yanks.

Finally, would all of you been whining if the Sox or Nationals had signed him? I didn't think so.....It's the economics of the game and Tex was going to get his money one way or another. You all just don't like the Yanks.

Very well said sir!

what a ridiculous comparison. the yankees have the 4 highest contracts in all of mlb and have spent over $400m this offeason alone. you cant compare that to the nationals signing him or even the red sox.

Not ridiculous at all and I stand by those comparisons. The Sox have arguably a similar cash stream and have always been at the top in terms of payroll. They happen to build their teams in a smarter way by developing young guys and making big trades when they can. But, make no mistake, they could have easily paid Tex this money and I doubt all the negative comments here would have gone toward them. They may not be as flashy or have as many high salaries but they are every bit as ruthless and spend when they need to. Don't forget that when they signed Manny he had one of the largest contracts in baseball and look what they are paying Drew and what it took to get Dice-K. Those are second or even third tier guys (not Manny) who are making obscene amounts of money by the Sox.

As for the Nationals or the Orioles for that matter, the point is that they were willing to reach those monetary heights. Had they done so I don't think it would have caused such a stink. Sure they don't have the amount of high salaries the Yankees have but that's not the point I'm trying to get across. The Yankees play in the richest market in baseball and have an extremely lucrative cable network which affords them the opportunity to spend so lavishly so why not do it? Should they be like the Marlins and cry poor every year while pocketing all the revenue sharing they receive? Baseball is entertainment and they are treating their fans well. But as said earlier, all this money does not buy a championship and all one has to do is look at the Rays as evidence what good drafting, patience and some luck can do for a team.

The Yankees payrole is $76.4 million more than the Red Sox for the 09 season. The difference in the Yankees payrole to the Red Sox is almost double the total amount of the entire Devil Rays team from last year.

It is pathetic because they didn't make the playoffs with the highest payroll ever. It has nothing to do with hating the Yankees at that point. There was no excuse to not make the playoffs with that payroll. Any idiot off the street should be able to make the playoffs with a team payroll almost double every other teams.

as for the guy comparing the yankees signing tex to the nationals signing tex... you arent even worth responding to if you seriously think they are in the same boat.

You see if you did some research you would see your wrong. If Roger Clemens was not a mercenary I do not know who is. Your still funny though. Reggie Jackson was too. Catfish fits the bill. Rickey Henderson. I can go on and on.

One or two mercenaries can. A team of mercenaries won't. Singular v. Plural my friend.

You're obviously still in denial about Jeter though. Sorry.

We all know that money can NOT buy a WS ring. The Yankees have proved this for several years now. So, for those that cry that the Yankees spend too much...who cares? It has no effect on you or your wallet.

With the amount of money the Yankees pay in Luxury Tax and revenue sharing you should be questioning the owners of your favorite team why they don't reinvest that money into the team. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong) I believe that the Yankees paid $110 million in luxury tax and revenue sharing for 2008. Where did your team put that money?

Matsui and or Swisher will be gone

Angels are not interested in Manny. He very well may become a Yankee.
