I enjoyed reading everyone's thoughts and input on this issue. There's a lot of room for everyone and their choice(s).

For myself, these types of collectibles - the more obscure the better - are what get my collecting blood boiling and fuels my hobby enjoyment.

This is the first time I've seen the checklist cards since...IIRC... 2004 or thereabouts. So that gives a point of perspective where we can draw some projections as to their availability.

Still, you never know where and when you'll encounter one. I don't discount at all the possibility that one could find them in a commons box. But if you 'have' to have one - I always say hit the BIN if its available. Budgets can be worked on, regrets not so much. Not unless busting a budget becomes your biggest regret. i.e. You can't hug, eat, or keep the rain off your family at night with cards. <wink> ;-D

For conversations sake I read his lengthy description when I first saw it. I noticed
he said he bought a complete set and had checklist #2 and was going to sell it.
Once I sat on the pot too long (can't figure out if I am mad or glad) I emailed him again
for checklist #2 and how much. He said that one sold for 150 also. I am assuming the
guy who bought #1 got #2 also?

So do we know if anyone on this board picked up this card?

For the record - not me, on either version. <hands raised in defense>

I was a little saddened, was hoping to pick up the #2 checklist

Checklist #2 has Ripken on it. He had both CL #1 and #2
WHat's this listed under then?
I don't see the proshooter on the checklist. Weird.

I don't think it's listed on the Beckett checklist. He's #50 in the set though. It's listed in the SCD Catalog.

Er wait... I mean Ripken isn't in the set or on the 2nd checklist... don't search for them!

::facepalm:: Great.
The Marble is doable, the checklist, not so much. Ugggh.
The joys of player collecting.

Have a digital link or list of the SCD Catalog? :)

Still need to trade our doubles!!

Well at least now you have a pic of the CL at least!

As a player collector do you try to round up every CL that has your guy on it?

Only ones that have a picture of him on them, not ones with only his name listed.

Gotcha, that makes alot of sense. Hope you pick up one soon bud.

How I wish price guides were accurate reflections of Frank Thomas prices.

Heh yeah price guides crack me up, the 2010 SCD Standard Catalog lists the Green and Purple 1998 Crusades as being the same price... Griffey is $30, Ripken is $40... and the reds are $120 and $160 ::facepalm::

SCD prices. As the original auction shows, expect to pay a LOT more. I'll pay $100 for checklist 1 without blinking.

You have the 2010? This is from the 2009 SCD. Why don't they wait until 2009 is over before they print the 2010?
I am missing half the sets from 2008 in this one.....

They release the new editions in September, so I guess it's like new cars... they just say it's the next year's edition.

Editied to add: The 2010 print version also only lists cards through 2000, and they put the minor league stuff back in. Everything after 2000 is on a included CD in PDF format.
