The best right handed hitter of all time! Pujols and Bonds are the 2 greatest hitters I have ever seen.

Not quite. He's not better than Mays or Foxx yet.

He is light years beyond Mays, and is past Foxx also. Look at average season comparisons. Mays played for 25 years, of course he had huge numbers. Average the numbers out per season, Pujols blows him away.

I don't know how old you are or how much you know about Mays but Pujols is not at Mays' level yet. Lets wait and see how Pujols plays out the rest of his career and see how he declines. If you can honestly say right now that Pujols is better than Mays you're just ignorant.

You give opinions. Here are facts.

Jimmie Foxx average season 26 HR, 96 RBI, .325 BA
Willie Mays average season 30 HR, 86 RBI, .302 BA
Albert Pujols average season 40 HR, 123 RBI, .334 BA

Pujold is still in his prime, and nowhere near declining. Facts do not lie, Pujols is better than Mays.

You have to keep in mind that those averages factor in Mays' decline years which Pujols hasn't hit yet. If Pujols walks away from baseball tomorrow you can't say he was the better player then Mays. You can say that at this point in his career Pujols has been better then Mays. Here are stats from Mays and Pujols thru their age 30 season.

Mays('51-'61) .316/.390/.585 OPS+ 158
Pujols('01-'10) .334/.427/.629 OPS+ 172

Now you also have to remember when looking at those numbers that they don't include Mays' best years of '63-'65 where he hit .309/.387/.611 with an OPS+ of 177. Basically you can't compare Pujols and Mays at this point because we don't know what Pujols will do as he ages. If he stops hitting when he turns 33 then he flat out isn't as good as Mays. If he continues to hit at his current rate and doesn't start to decline until 35 or so then he will have a better career then Mays.

Those stats also mean nothing without side by side comparisons to the league averages during the players' playing years.

That would be what OPS+ is for. OPS+ is OPS adjusted for the park and the league in which the player played. Basically an OPS+ of 100 means you were an average player in the league. Anything above 100 means you were above average. FWIW Pujols is 6th all time in OPS+. Here is the top 10:

1. Babe Ruth, 207
2. Ted Williams, 191
3. Barry Bonds, 182
4. Lou Gehrig, 179
5. Rogers Hornsby, 175
6. Mickey Mantle, 172
6. Albert Pujols, 172
8. Dan Brouthers, 170
8. Joe Jackson, 170
10. Ty Cobb, 167

I don't blame Pujols for being pissed. I'd be extremely pissed too in that situation. I was watching and thinking to myself 'what in the **** was Ludwick or LaRussa thinking' in that situation? I knew Pujols was going to be extremely pissed off, as he should have been. You don't take the bat out of his hand. And you don't **** with the lineup when he's in it either. Holliday needs to remove his head from his ass, and I don't think potentially pissing Pujols off by dropping him to 4th is worth all the headach it may cause.

Bad ideas all around.

Larussa may know how to manage, but that doesn't always mean he's right. He makes plenty of mistakes.

Wow.
IIRC the on card autos were released in retail only correct?
The ones released in the hobby boxes of Reserve were encased in PSA cases with autos on the PSA label.

The on card were retail only and a print run of 160. The base card has a print run of 1500 and 555 are graded by PSA with an autograph slip. Of the 555, 1 is graded PSA 9 and the other 554 are PSA 8.

The retail on card is one of my favorite Pujols RCs.

WOW I cant believe I almost read this entire thread. LOL
Is Pujols the best ever? no. tops 5? no. How many triple crowns does Ted Williams have? Is Pujols a great player yes. Ridiculously good? no. Not in my opinion.
Now I see someone here saying Howard is better. Well. not in all categories. Yes Howard does shine better in some areas. since 2006 Howard has had more RBI's than Pujols and more Home runs. But they are 2 different kind of players. 2 different styles. Pujols kills Howard with the Average and Howard does strike out a lot. But to compare 2 players is moot. You can never say one player is the best ever unless that player did better than everyone else in every category. And that will never happen because some play longer than others and so forth.
So in my opinion is Pujols the best? no. will he be the best ever? no. Is he in the top 5? no. is he in the top 50 id say yes.

A triple crown, or batting over .400, HAS ALWAYS BEEN A FREAK OCCURRENCE. I tend to think of accomplishments like that as the icing on a players career, not the cake. As it is, Pujols is the best player of his generation (2001-2010, probably beyond), and I think that that is the only thing that can be said at this point.

Sorry .. you wont change my mind. it is funny how people act when you speak against the all mighty Pujols. Lets look at it this way. Pujols you say is the best right? BUT in the past what? 5 years a (what some people call a shlub) named Ryan Howard has more home runs and RBI's. how can someone that is rediculously good be doing worse in home runs and RBI's than a average player (as RL24 has stated)
Pujols is a great player. "one" of the best playing the game out there. But i cant say "the" best.

Lets break down his batting average
2010 (so far) 6th place
2009 3rd
2008 2nd
2007 6th
2006 3rd
2005 2nd
2004 5th
2003 1st
2002 7th
only once did he hit #1

lets break down his hits
2010 (so far) 9th
2009 6th
2008 3rd
2007 12th
2006 14th
2005 4th
2004 5th
2003 1st
2002 4th

again only hit 1st once

now for rbi's
2010 (so far) 3rd
2009 3rd
2008 4th

1st place..find me one other guy in baseball who consistently puts up his type of numbers over the last 10 years.. no one else playing right now can get even close to that kind of production over the past 10 years... you dont need to be number one..he is consitently just great..number one in every categor no...
Currently..#21 career batting average..no active player better
Hits..has a long way to go...Jeter and Pudge sitting at 2700 ish..
OBS--currently #12..close with Helton believe it or not..
Slugging Pct..currently #4 over ALL
I quoted stats through 09...not sure if I looked just last 10 years where he would rank..Im guessing in top 5 in just about every category..besides all the above..RING, GOLD GLOVE, ROY AND MVP..they speak for themselves...
so even saying anything close to the fact that he is not one of if not the the best player PLAYING the game right now is foolish..one of the best ever..time will tell.. We will see how kind time is to those hammy's and that elbow. He has not been the healthiest guy ever.
Ok..here you go...stats over last 10 years...his rank among ACTIVE PLAYERS

BA-1st
On Base %-1st
Slugging %-1st
Runs Scored-19th
Hits-26th--pretty damn good when you think about the guys in the league that are better and how long they have been around
HR's-9th
