The standard casual fan couldn't even pick him out in a crowd. I'd say he probably doesn't even make the top 25, maybe even 50 most recognizable athletes in the USA.

Honestly, I think his goofy name is holding him back.

If his name was, say, Will "the Thrill" Clark, on the other hand, he would be the next Mickey Mantle.

Pujols simply has "the worst name for a best player "in the history of sports.

Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth....you can't beat those-they were destined for supreme greatness.

I see no way that's true. I agree he isn't quite as recognized as he should be, but your statement is a stretch.

My parents never miss a Red Sox game, and have no clue who he is at all. I live around one of the biggest sports markets there is, you see shirts of almost everyone in the NFL, NBA and tons of Sox/Yankees shirts. I have never once seen anyone with a Pujols shirt in this area at all. That includes a decent number of Red Sox games and a few hundred minor league or Cape League games.

To a die hard Baseball fan he is huge, but he isn't a 10th as famous as a Jeter, A Rod or Griffey was in the 90's.
