Ah, good ol Hess

::facepalm::

You notice that too?

Sorry to get OT-

Looks like he didn't get out of the hobby once he was caught selling printed cards and such like he said he would over on Topps. Now he just lurks there and has more alts.

My favorite "Hess Moment"

Unsearched Box from Garage Sale- Never opened.
"As stated before the box was un-searched, I purchased it at a garage sale." Said Hess.

In the bottom of the box...

His or his brothers Autographed Little League card. lol

[quote="cowboysrule48":b8hfgsft]The funny thing is, Albert Pujols is probably underrated among fans and the media.
I don't think most people really realize how good he has been in a historical context...

The standard casual fan couldn't even pick him out in a crowd. I'd say he probably doesn't even make the top 25, maybe even 50 most recognizable athletes in the USA.

But the casual fan could pick out every member of the Red Sox 40 man roster I bet, right? This statement is way off base. Pujols is one of the top 5 most recognizable players. The only players ahead of him would be Arod, Jeter, Griffey, and Ichiro.

Pujols2001StudioMasterstrokes825.png

I think it's somewhere between both of your statements. Highly doubt it's top 5, but 50 seems to be a stretch.

Just curious as to what players you would put above him other than the four I named.[/quote:b8hfgsft]

I think there are plenty of players that aren't a quarter of the player that Pujols is that are more recognizable. Someone like Johnny Damon has played in multiple cities, two of which were two of the biggest baseball cities. He's won championships with both teams and is known for his crazy hair and antics with the red sox and had a number of crazy quotes with the yankees.

What about someone like Josh Hamilton? He looks different with all the tattoos (distinguishing characteristic) and had a ton of press between the HR Derby, his comeback story, and his recent relapse into drugs.

How about Jon Lester? Plays in a huge baseball city, one of the best pitchers in the game, and has the cancer comeback story.

Prince Fielder? His size is fairly distinguishing. Had a father that played in the league. In the news for his celebrations and off the field antics.

Pujols "suffers" from doing everything the right way and because he's so consistent that he never has a "monster year" to talk about because all of his years are amazing.

I then posted a photo of it and his "father" emailed me and asked me to take it down.

The best right handed hitter of all time! Pujols and Bonds are the 2 greatest hitters I have ever seen.

Just picked up my first pujols auto for my collection. I think i got it at a good price. 152$ aint bad. It's a on card auto which i tried to shoot for with a old skool theme, and i love The Clubhouse at roger dean stadium in the background.

Not quite. He's not better than Mays or Foxx yet.

hey I'm not saying Alberto isn't off to a hot start but look at the stats:

Pujols 5 HR's 14 RBI's 5 K's .346 21 total bases

Howard 3 HR's 11 RBI's 4 K's .375 with 4 doubles and a triple 27 total bases

Ryan is just as good if not better.

I think the assertion that the "casual fan" can't tell you who Albert is seems a little far fetched. I consider a casual fan a sports fan, not your mom or aunt that really likes going to games to stuff her face with funnel cake. Anyone who catches Sports Center at any point during the season knows who the guy is.

Oh, and the idea that Posada is more recognizeable is ridiculous. He could walk down the street in any city that's not New York and not be bothered. He looks like any accountant, lawyer, or butcher out there.

Being on Sportscenter doesn't make you a superstar. Being on a talk show in the morning not Sportscenter makes you a superstar.

He's a great player, no one denies that, but people outside the baseball world don't know it.

So, are we talking about their global footprint then? Because if you're talking strictly from a marketing stand point I'll agree with you. However; saying that the common man isn't aware of who he is, is pretty ignorant.

By any stretch I don't see how anyone could put him in the top 5 known Baseball players. I just asked 5 sports fans at work who is the first person comes to mind as best player on earth all of them said A Rod, none said Pujols.

I don't argue that he is the best out there, but do argue that in 5 people who all have watched sportscenter in the last week, none around me said Albert.

talk is cheap, look at the stats. Pujols has struck out more and has 6 less total bases. Stop drinking the Pujols
cool aid and look at the facts!

Does Nelson Cruz have the stats of either of them the past 4 years? I didn't think so. Howard has matched Pujols
every year, Albert might have the edge, but Howard isn't going away AND Ryan has fewer RBI chances with Utley
hitting ahead of him and the tired old argument of Howard strikes out more is so far lost this season.

anymore kool aid?

It's funny how you define last four years without including last year. Pujols beat Howard in almost every category except triples, and fairly significantly in a number of categories.

Instead of arguing with stats, why not argue with what matters:

NL MVP : Pujols 3, Howard 1

Case closed ;)

Actually what really matters is World Series titles and at the moment i think they are tied with 1 each.

First let me say I have no vested interest in either Pujols or Howard, and am not a Phillies or Cards fan. Lets say that their power numbers are the same. Pujols is a lifetime .334 hitter and Howard is a .280 hitter. Over .50 points higher. Game, set and match Pujols.
