Well if anyone sees or knows where the Gio Gonzalez Red Refractor Auto 1/1 is, let me know! I will give anyone a $50 finders fee for the information of the owner.

I'm pretty sure this is exactly what Phil told everyone on the BMBs when be was there many moons ago. I recall this being a topic of conversation with him. I'm sure others could verify this as well.

It should've been inserted. There were supposedly two copies of each Red produced that year, both signed by the respective player. One was supposed to be saved for replacement (without the 3M sticker on the back), but Phil Hughes convinced the Topps rep to let him keep one. Or at least, that's what I was told by the owner of a card shop who was friends with Hughes and had the card at the time (this was 2007).

I can corroborate this story. I think this one was actually yours. Decided it was time for another Gio collector to enjoy.

Best I will ever see?
There are four of those printing plates (one of each color) and I owned one of them.
I bought mine on eBay a few years ago and sold it to a huge Gio collector who used to post a lot on FCB.
I have a scan of it somewhere.
It's still a great card, but not quite the masterpiece you make it out to be.

reminds me of:

Does Anyone Know WossaMottaU?

Hahaha. I actually got in contact with that guy and eventually found the Aroldis 2010 SuperFractor Auto. So make fun of me all you want but mission accomplished for me.

Adam,

Here are mine. I have been wary for a couple of years, just as you are, but as more come out, the more unconcerned I get. Here are three notations I currently own.

GioEEENotations.jpg

The G-Money one certainly looks fishy next to the other two, but is a match to Chapman's. This could definitely mean that the same person faked both but I don't think that is the case. After seeing the Topps Trubute G-Money, you can see some distinct similarities. Obviously one is printed in lower case and the other and upper case, but I think you can definitely see some similar features and characters (the G's, the dip in the hyphen, and the y's are similar) The tribute is also encased and was put on ebay within a week of the release of the product, so I would have to believe that this wasn't forged. And if it was, it would almost certainly have to be the same person that faked the Elite notations. But then again, maybe I'm just being too optimistic and am choosing to overlook why anyone would have two different styles of writing. Who knows..

Awesome cards. Thanks for sharing.

My opinion on some of the Elite inscriptions is they look like a girl wrote them.

Although I've never been a huge fan of the printing plates, congratulations on adding the card to your collection.

"Double 'G' Unit" looks to be written by a female. I would guess that he had someone help him sign a stack of cards. IMO, two different people definitely signed the nickname inscriptions, but I don't think they were done after the fact.

This would be my view, too. I don't think they were necessarily faked after the fact - but I just can't fathom them being written by the same person. He may have had a ghost signer.
