The only players that I bought more than $100 worth of their initial cards were Kurt Suzuki, Zach Mcallister, and Hideki Matsui. The Kurt Suzuki is more of a personal collection so it isn't so bad. I guess Mcallister has some time as he's only 22. However, I know I've lost a TON on matsui's stuff, especially from 03. But again, mainly PC stuff that I wasn't plannig on moving anyway.

I tend to go with a bunch of small stashes rather than a couple big ones, so I don't have any big losses. Worst one right now is probably Aaron Poreda though. Could still turn it around pitching in a pitcher's park, but no one cares about SD, especially if he stays a reliever ::facepalm::

Don't prospect much and I'm very fortunate that most have panned out to some extent (Hanson heyward Bourbon madbum yunel). Biggest bust since I started collecting again in 05' would be:
Jeff Locke (2nd round pick I believe) and
richmondlot.jpg

edit: excuse the black lab hair in the scan. I lost money on chuck lames too.

I haven't paid much, but here are a few of my guys I held onto a bit too long. I could have made a killing in the short term, but was greedy.

Nick Neugebauer
Wes Chamberlain
Andujar Cedeno
Dwight Smith

Same here. Nick only had a Bowman RC card.
My horror story:
Humberto Sanchez

I have about 10 different Bowman's Best, a couple of Sterling base auto's and a couple of refractor auto's. One I had graded that came back a BGS 9.5.

I also pulled a Darius Miles SPX auto Rc, but sold it immediately.

Josh Fields or Andrew Fie.

At one point, I had 5 of the 16 Sterling Black Refractors for Fields, and two of the three 9.5 Gold Refractors; and, well...
I think I paid 180 for the Fie Superfractor. I think he just plowed my street this week.

Austin Gallagher will no doubt be next.

This is a great thread!I'm so tired of reading over and over people brag about their steals or their flips they seemingly made hundreds or thousands on!I wanna hear about the other side of the coin! This hobby isn't always as rosy as so many make it out to be on here. What about K. Greene?Wasn't the dude drafted #1 overall in '02?Surely collectors were attracted to his '02 Bowman Draft cards like insects to a light bulb? Why is Young mentioned so frequently? He had an outstanding year last year.

BTW, my worst purchase was a Maybin AFLAC card :x .

My bad, thought he was drafted higher.

My worst purchase was a 2006 Bowman Chrome orange refractor 1/25 of Carlos Gomez. He is still fairly young and playing that i know of but i paid way too much. Thankfully between that and the black refractor auto of Jp Arencibia i can say i have not made many expensive bad purchases. (the jp was all cash back thank god)
Edit - i should say i dont think either will NOT pan out - just spent too much on them.

True, I remember pulling one of his rookies and thought I had a decent pull there. But his rookies weren't issued until '03, right?

I dug up some information on Greene and he absolutely mashed at Clemson. He won several accolades while there including the Golden Spikes Award and Baseball America ROY, and I'm almost positive he was #1 on the Becket Hot List at some point.Surely collecters out there spent a bunch on him.

Anyone purchase a lot of Rick Ankiel & JD Drew...?

Thank goodness I was out of collecting then or I would have spent a bunch on those guys.I think I remember seeing a signed Ankiel ball and ticket the year after he was called up at a show and somehow was able to pass on it.

Any anybody here guilty of this

Yes, only I focused on his autos. Luckily I dumped them and only lost 25% after his 2nd arrest.

I wish I could find out what he's doing now. If his head is on straight he could make a great "comeback" reality show character!

I was a big time JD Drew collector. I sold almost all of the GU and Autos, but I have tons of cool inserts, every Cardinals base card, his 2001 Chirography, a fleet patch card with the JFB patch, and a Leaf R&S RC.

I was going to keep collecting him but when he left Atlanta, I was done.

I have quite the large Chuck Lofgren stash... ::facepalm::

Chuck Lofgren once hit on me via Facebook chat. No joke.

And my contribution to this thread is:

Eric Munson (probably a solid $300 in Autos/GU/Rookies)
Adam Miller (probably about $500)
