I agree with the omission of Bailey. Even when Phil was doing the hot list, it wasn't about the most valuable card, it was about the increase in sales. A ref auto of Bailey going from $10 to $26 is a very sharp increase, even if it is of a hobby non-hero.

I personally felt he highlighted too many 10 to 20 dollar moves and missed many cards that went for 400 to 800 in the same period. I think it was also too prospect orientated as well.

Anywhere Delta goes.
If you got beef with me come out and say it. No need for the passive dance I have been getting from you in the past few months.

The FCB store has shifted a bit, but as with this site it's my business on the line and not yours and you digging at me constantly for it is a bit unwarranted.

Exactly, this wasnt a list of the highest selling cards in the hobby as most of this list appears to be. It was a list of the cards that had seen the largest % price increase. A card that sold for $3 now selling for $12 could be included as well as a card that sold for $100 spiking to $200. But a card that sold for $1200 last week and sells for $1400 probably wouldnt make the cut. This list was helpful in finding some cards that may be stuffed in a shoebox somewhere and alerting you to get them out. This weeks list was a give up and I can tell about 15 minutes of effort was put into it. I hope this list improves in the next few weeks

The only problem I have is the quality of life on this board (so to speak). I hate to see it not quite what it was or should be over magic cards.

You guys are a very tough crowd. I suggest you try the list your self. It's not as easy as Phil made it look.

Even his lists drew complaints. Nothing will ever make you guys happy.

YOU make me happy, Chris. YOU make me happy. I said this to you at the National, and I'll say it again now: I'm not sure how you put up with all the crap that you get here. Thanks for all you do!

Phil Mason, who has valiantly written this list for two years now will be sitting the next few lists out until we can get a handle on the blog content. The goal is to have a series of regular columns by a few writers and not just be the two man show that it has been. Content is going to take this site forward. Forward seems like a good direction, so let’s start the list.

I may be wrong here, but the way I read this is that Chris may be looking for new/more writers? Maybe some people could quit being the armchair QB and step up themselves.

How about if you don't like the way Gilmo does stuff you go elsewhere? I don't see any other boards doing giveaways with manufacturers and doing parties for their members at Nationals each year either. Remember, you get this for free folks, get over yourselves.

+1 The sense of entitlement many people have is simply amazing.

As someone who use to do hot lists, I can attest to the time and effort it actually takes to make a functional and informative list. I think Chris did a very good job at achieving his goal(s). A few teething issues? Perhaps, but a fully entertaining and functional Hot List none the less.

Kudos Chris!

You know, I have to completely back Chris here and state my feelings. I have slowly (and then quickly) been disconnecting myself from the hobby and this site, but that doesn't mean I'm not around. I've watched people start to attack Chris for trying to make a better community. Does this really need to happen?

It's so easy to look from the outside and state an opinion, ignoring what it takes to make these changes a reality. It takes time, money, effort, and help from supporters to make the changes stick for the better. Instead of burning him at the stake for trying new things and making shifts, maybe offer some help to make YOUR community the best in the hobby.

Chris has a full time job, which is also his own business, AND he also has this site. He had a bunch of people helping him out, but they too have their own lives, families, and jobs. Things ebb and flow, things change...it's the way life goes. But you can't throw it all in his face, full of negativity.

Express your feelings, constructively. Chris will respond and listen. He has always been someone to try and evolve with the technology and ideas.

ADAM you have always been quality over quantity regarding posts, this being one of your best.

I am generally positive with my comments on these boards and consider myself far from a complainer. I view this as constructive criticism. The blog hasn't been run well. There was a group of us who wrote articles as part of a "writer's guild" a few months ago and almost none of them got used. I eventually stopped spending a few hours to write articles that got ignored. Asking the community to pitch in and spend time and effort to write blog posts, with the result being that almost none are used, isn't the way to grow a blog. Taking the one successful feature on the blog, the Hot List, removing its author and "mailing it in" also isn't the way to grow the blog. There are good forum posts every week that could easily be converted into a blog post with the permission of the poster. On the forum right now: Razor Z's post about the Canseco tag, Charlie's thread on his Dave Nicholson collection, the Josh Johnson collector's rant (cleaned up), linking to the Mike Schmidt article on sloppy autographs all would make nice blog posts.

Here are two suggestions: (1) review each new product on the blog, rating it for aesthetics, quality control, and value; (2) take the "Unbelieve-a-pull" thread and make it a part of the blog. Ask folks if they will allow you to post a photo of big pack pulls and big time acquisitions on the blog. People love seeing amazing, rare cards and knowing that you can see them on FCB will attract new members.

Just my two cents. I very much appreciate having this free forum to interact with fellow collectors and enjoy the hobby. Chris has done a nice job with his recent articles until the Hot List. I'm just trying to make this place better.

I can tell you as someone who owns an MMA site with a frontpage blog and a vb forum..... there is plenty of time spent trying keep XXXX together, do a lot of it unpaid and trying find trustworthy people to help you run the site.... I'd imagine the guy spends enough time running the store.. then to have do this on top of it must be rough.

I think that the guy does a hell of job putting up a quality site in general along with rest of the admins. I have people XXXXX on my site all the time, but you can only do so much when you are sacrificing sleep to fix things and ensure content is right and you don't have enough people to help. That doesn't include the time it takes to deal with crappy servers and hosts. I gave up on writing for the page because of my other obligations and no one else wants to do it anymore for no pay. Which I don't blame them.

As far as the Hot List is concerned, I'm sure he did the best he could at the time and I'm sure it'll be better next week. It is what it is.
