Thome back to the White Sox?

CSNChicago.com reports that the White Sox are expected to claim DH Jim Thome on waivers. This season for the Twins, Thome is hitting .253 with 12 home runs and 40 RBI. Thome played for the White Sox from 2006-2009 before being traded to the Dodgers.

Why not. I would be an upgrade to the horrible season Adam Dunn has put up this year.
Imagine how the Sox's Record would be if both Adam Dunn and Alex Rios played up to there potential or put up numbers like they did last year. They would be in first place by a few games.
Kenny Williams always gets a veteran guy around this time the last couple of years to try to make a final run at the division.
ie: Manny and Griffey JR.

I think Jim is coming back and then he will retire. This way he retires as a White sock and can be with the team he won a world series with.

Seems like a good move on the Sox part, since Dunn and Rios suck ass this season, and with Quentin and Konerko hurt, they need someone in the DH spot. But they will not make the playoffs.

I am not all that bummed. I hope he goes to a team with a chance... hopefully he hangs around until Saturday so I can see him swing the bat a few more times.

Just a few things to remember:

The club that placed the player on waivers can either withdraw the request and keep the player, work out a trade or let the player go to the claiming team, which would then have rights to the player.

Thome -- who has a full no-trade clause -- has never won a World Series, but he didn't want to comment about whether he'd OK a trade to a contending team.

"If that happens in the future we'll deal with that," said Thome, who reached the 600-homer plateau last week. "Out of respect to the organization and all that, the best thing is to not comment."

The Sox season is over as there is no way they are catching the Tigers the way both teams are playing. This waiver claim is nothing more than an attempt to block the Indians or another team from getting Thome thats all. I highly doubt that the White Sox want to take on even this small amount of salary for the rest of the year since they have deadwood like Dunn sitting on the bench collecting (stealing) a paycheck. If Thome should somehow fall to the Sox they might take a chance but only to put extra butts in the seats because I dont think they even believe they have a chance anymore this year.

When the Tigers are in first in August, almost everyone in the division still has a chance to over take them, see:
2006: Tuesday Aug 22nd, 8 game lead over the Twins, Twins win the division
2007: Wednesday Aug 15th, tied for the division lead, end up 8 games back of the Indians
2009: Sunday Sept 6th, 7 game lead over the Twins, Twins win the division

So dont count your Tigers before Wed Sept 28th, they have a recent history of failure!
