Thoughts on a very large purchase (Bundy Red Ref. style)

Placed an offer for $900 on this and the seller accepted. Not usually my style to look for opinions, but it's a pretty big card (by my standards anyways) and I am not sure what the market would be. Seeing how highly BA has him rated made me think it was a pretty decent price.

Centering looks more off than a 9 so I guess that was a generous grade bc of the rarity of the card (BGS). He has a shot but the way Baltimore grooms pitchers isn't the greatest as Matusz and Hobgood can attest to that. I would try to flip it for a profit ASAP if he has a good Spring or makes an early impact as pitchers can be one of the biggest gambles. Also, investing in pitchers isn't always the greatest because a lot of them end up in the bullpen where there is a very small chance to increase attention and profit and also if they do become a starter they only play once every fifth game to prove themselves and raise hype. Injuries are another major factor in pitching investments as arm injuries are all too common: Stephen Strasburg

Nice card dude!!! I have nothing to add to your question but I think a red refractor of one of the top auto pulls of the set is A+. Tough to know if its a keep/sell with a pitcher...but I do wish my dude Felix Hernandez had a red refractor auto Speaking of Bundy...

It seems to me that the prices on the BDP autos this year are low enough that profit will be made on half the players. I think Bundy's prices are low for how good he supposedly is and that you got a good price on the card. I also agree that your purchase is very risky; you'd probably have to do it enough times and know what you're doing to make good money this way.

Not sure if the centering is just the scan, but you are definitely right on pitchers being a risk. The way I see it though, with blue refractors at $200 or so, the price just makes sense.

Once the Ichiro is in hand again it will be listed. I think he has a chance to heat up in the way that Bauer has recently.

I was thinking the same thing, but going to be tough to pull off with that centering. It could easily come back an 8.5 on that sub. Sweet card though. I've been adding his stuff as I can, but nothing of that caliber. I envy you guys that drop a G on a card

$900 is a very good price for it. I would expect him to tear through the low minors in 2012, and prices will inflate accordingly.

I love the card! Good for you. I hope you do well with it and you should when fantasy mags and online sites start putting out their aggregate top prospect lists if you're looking to flip quickly.
