Chipper is one of my favorite players. Yes, even as a die hard Met fan, I respect him as a player

I believe he is signed for one more year until 2012

These are some of his numbers as of 2011

.304 avg
2615 hits
526 doubles
454 hrs
1561 rbi

3000 hits - needs 385
600 doubles - needs 74
500 hrs - needs 46
1700 rbi - needs 139

I believe he's a first ballot HOFer once he retires but it would be great for Chipper to play his entire career with the Braves, as well as hitting some or all of those milestones

So what milestone will he be able to reach? All? None?

He def cannot reach none after 2012, that much I know. They will be attainable with him playing at least 3 seasons, barring injuries IMHO

Thanks for the read, and would welcome your thoughts on Chipper

Dave

Disclaimer: bought a nice card of his a few days ago as I've been meaning to add a nice card of his for a while. Lol. NOT the reason why I'm posting this.

I don't think he reaches any of those milestones, but I don't think it matters much.

He's a first ballot hall of famer if he retires right now, but in the mid tier of the hall.

Go to the AL, he might be able to attain homers, RBI and hits milestones as a DH. In the NL, he'll probably lbe lucky to get half a season full-duty time (or the whole season with several days off each week) because his knees are probably too shot.

Not a first ballot HOF to me (not the most special of players to me to give him a first ballot vote) but definitely would get my vote on the 2nd ballot if for some reason he didn't get in from the votes of others on the first try.

I think it all depends on how he plays next season. If he's still productive next season in his own mind, he will play one more. And if he's still productive in 2013, he will play one more and reach one or two of those major milestones. I hope he does play two or three more, but it's unlikely.

Another note on Chipper, he's also one of the best team players of all time. It's hard to find a guy who has put more into a franchise than him.

1st ballot for sure. One of the best switch hitter of all time that include names like The Mick, Rose, and Murray. Wish the guy was able to stay healthy down the stretch here...but unfortunately your body begins to break down. Def. a class act throughout his whole career. I wish he could reach 500 HR but i think that hour glass is about empty. To be honest, i would rather him retire as a Braves then see him leave for the AL where he could "maybe" accomplish that feat.

Got his autograph IP twice arleady and although he doesn't say much, seems like a very nice guy. When he comes to Chicago to the play the Cubs perhaps for the last time, i am going to the Hotel to try and get a few extra things signed. Anyway, 1st ballot in my mind. Its hard to be mentioned with guys like i mentioned above and not get a look for the HOF.

thanks!

Last of a dying breed:

Drafted by One Team
Groomed by One Team
Came up to the Majors for One Team
Starred for One Team
All-Stared for One Team
Champion for One Team

With Pujols leaving that club, the list of Legends that fit the above list wont be growing much going forward.

Jeter and Ichiro come to mind as far as other current players that fit the bill (Mariano Rivera too i guess, but he is a relief pitcher, not as credible in my book)

I don't see him hitting any of those milestones as I think this will be his last year.

He has been a 1st ballot in my book for the past 3 years.

If he plays two more seasons I can see him getting 3000 hits, but that's about it. His power isn't as good as it used to be, or i'd say he could get to 500 HR.

Definite first ballot Hall of Famer.
Has similar numbers to Jeff Bagwell, but Chipper's never been suspected of PEDs.
I don't think he'll reach the milestones, but I'd rather him retire with the Braves and fall short of those numbers, than go to the AL and DH just to do it.
Chipper's a Braves lifer.

My man Todd Helton fits this bill if you take champion out of the mix (though you seem to have made exception for Ichiro, neither, groomed, drafted, nor a champion)

Anywhere Delta goes.
I like Chipper and hope he makes the hall on the 1st ballot, I just don't see him getting any of those numbers. Injuries have done it for him, he stubs his toe on the foul line.

Have always hated the guy but I have to admit hes had a great career!

And outside of the cheating on his wife episode, hes kept himself fairly low key off the field!
