Thoughts on how to solve a minor ebay problem

I won a Sonny Gray topps chrome auto for $11.50, most of these cards are going for $20 or over, which complicates my decision a little bit. The seller decided to mail the card in a plain manila envelope with a 60 cent stamp. This meant the post office put it through the sorters which creased the plastic hard case but only bent the Sonny Gray card. There is no crease but if you take the card out the left had corner is definitely curled/bent. I'd scan it but I don't think it would really show up. Should I just return the card? I'm kind of thinking I might just keep the card since I got such a good deal and leave neutral feedback since it was shipped so poorly, but I also don't want to be "that jerk" that leaves neutral feedback if the seller offers a refund (which I'm not sure he'll do I just informed him of the problem). What do you guys think?

tell them what happened, discuss what you paid for shipping and what they paid to ship it. Request a refund and offer to split your cost to resend the card to them in exchange for a refund. Give the seller a chance to make good on the situation.

Sounds like you still want the card, so ask for a partial refund to pay for the loss in value. It's a win/win. You get to keep the card at a fair value and he gets a positive feedback from an error.

True but when returning soemthing you should always use DC otherwise the seller could claim item was never received

There's no proof the seller sent the item either. If he doesn't agree to a refund, you can always force your way into one (since it's his fault the card was sent thru the sorting machine) and Paypal will side with you if you file for item not received, then just send it back to him in a PWE.

That's why I said that. Not exactly cool, but neither is sending a nice card in PWE, especially if he charged more than $1 fo shipping in the first place. The buyer is covered and makes a nice point too.

Tell him since he only paid 60 cents you request the rest of the shipping back so you can return it to him. If he declines open a dispute and negative feedback. DO NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT LEAVING NEGATIVE FEEDBACK because all they have to do is forward it to ebay and your feedback is removed. No matter how subtle you may think you are being it can be removed.

But then again he will probably give you the sob story on how gas costs money and how on the way to the post office he had to stop and grab a sandwich on your dollar.
