Is that a modern (post-1972) polyester jersey under the patch?
Or a wool flannel jersey like when Williams played?
It appears modern polyester, but it's tough to tell in the scans.
Anyway, beautiful card.
Neither are wool style jerseys. My guess at best the jerseys were from old timers events.
:? Then that's awfully pricey for a non-game used jersey.
(I don't consider "event-used" jerseys from elderly ex-players to be game-used.)

eh, it is what it is

And if there were nice jumbo patches of the old wool jerseys, then maybe I'd go after one of them.

Nice card Chris.

They would go for one helluva lot more if they were wool game used.

Is it standard knowledge that they're not game used? Honestly, I had no clue as to when the Sox switched from wool to poly-knit.

It is from an old timers game, I pulled a jumbo patch of his from flair a few years back. To bad it was a jumbo card on top of it and of a million different 1 of 1's. Traded it for a UDA Authentics redemption card for his auto jersey. Sold that redemption to a dealer like a moron.

The Pittsburgh Pirates were the first MLB team to "experiment" with poly/knit jerseys in the 1970 season.

Hence why I have said in the past that I believe the Clemente patches in this same product to be game used, and why the Williams def. are not.

There was a huge debate about these on another forum, a couple of jersey collectors stepped in and essentially said they had to be old-timer jerseys because of the stitching. I still love it but I wish UD had stated such.... we don't need another Topps Tribute bat fiasco.

Nice win though!

With Williams last season being 1960 I guess it is a event jersey.

Sweet card, would love to have it. I offered him $675 when he was trying to move it here and told me he would take no less than $850 for it.

Great pick up (regardless of when it was worn) and at a steal.

As for Clemente, it would have been hard for him to have anything but a Game Worn Jersey and the Patches are from the 1970 jersey that Chas mentioned.

I was stunned by the ending price. I think it's pretty obvious these jerseys were not worn during william's playing career. Still, there can't be that many more of his jumbo patches coming out in the future. Congrats on the pickup.

Is this really necessary? I had higher offers at that time and thought I could get more...oh well. No need to question someone's intelligence. Especially when you know nothing about them. Anywho...Chris, thanks! I'll be seeing you later this week.
