In looking up some possibilities, I ran across an interesting grand slam fact from Baseball Almanac. There have been 13 AL and 9 NL players to hit grand slams in consecutive games. Babe Ruth is the only player to hit grand slams in consecutive games twice. Craziest name on the list? David Eckstein. Followed closely by Dan Gladden.

AL - Willie Aikens, Albert Belle, Mike Blowers, Jim Busby, Rob Deer, Bill Dickey, David Eckstein, Jimmie Foxx, Dan Gladden, Ken Griffey Jr., Greg Luzinski, Brooks Robinson, Babe Ruth
NL - Jimmy Bannon, Carlos Beltran, Eric Davis, Phil Garner, Fred McGriff, Mike Piazza, Jimmy Sheckard, Sammy Sosa, Robin Ventura

For the back to back games:
Tony Lazzeri - 2nd game of DH on 5/23/1936, 3 for 5 with 2 HR, 4 RBI followed by 4 for 5 with 3B, 3 HR, 11 RBI
Sammy Sosa - 8/10/2002, 3 for 4 with 3 HR, 9 RBI followed by 3 for 5 with 2B, HR, 5 RBI

Good stuff, I'll add Lazzeri and Sosa.

Moved Lazzeri to tops on the list. It's interesting that the top 2 right now both did it on the same day.

You left off the guy that started this thread idea...Colbert, and the guys record he broke with RBI in a DH, Stan the Man

Obviously not eligible for this category, but one of my favorite baseball memories was of attending a Doubleheader around Labor Day in 1974 at Memorial Stadium, where, in the middle of a tight pennant race, the Orioles put up back to back 1-0 shutouts of the Red Sox. The looks on the Red Sox players after the 2nd game was priceless. Now onto Baseball Reference to see if my memory still holds up.

Wow, pretty good, games were on Labor Day, Sept. 2, 1974, 4 complete games, Cuellar and Grimsley with wins for the O's, Tiant and Lee the BoSox losers. Times of games, 1:53 and 1:49.

Rickey - July 5, 1993 Game 1: 2-3 Leadoff homer, 2RBI, BB. Game 2: 2-4 Leadoff homer, 1RBI Total 4 for 7 with 2 homers and 3 RBI. Not too shabby for a leadoff guy!

Since Double Headers are one day, does the player get the day before or after as well? Since the DH is one day? Title says back to back days. Just curious. If so his 2 day total (July 4-5, 1993) 5 for 10 (.500) 4 runs, 5 RBI, 3 HR and 2 BB.

You can choose the best game from a doubleheader and then the game the day before or after the doubleheader. Only fair to use totals from two games.

While all other players, obviously, fall short of the greatness of Nate Colbert, did you know that Nate and his dad were in attendance when Musial hit his five home runs in a doubleheader?

I did not know that, pretty cool.

K. I'll go back thru tomorrow and see what is best. Just wondered since technically it said back to back days. But I figured double header counted as same thing.

I added Musial and Colbert, but it is getting tougher to make the rankings. Musial hitting 5 HRs in back to back games and only ranking #6 on the list seems wrong. We may need an FCB ranking system to quantify the numbers in the list. Maybe something like:

HR +4
3B +3
2B +2
1B +1
RBI +1
R +1
BB +1
SB +1
Out -1
CS -1

Thoughts?

This thread brings back memories of attending back to back Yankee games a few years ago and Jorge Posada hitting a grand slam in both...Hip Hip!

Do not have the exact dates, but happened in August. Pretty sure Soriano was 6-for-9 with four home runs and 13 RBIs in back to back games.

So I threw the first 6 guys into a spreadsheet with the calculations with the scoring method I mentioned. The only thing I changes was subtracting 2 for hitting into a double play. Here are the results and they are very close to how I ranked them.

PLAYER
FCB PTS
Tony Lazzerri
43
Nate Colbert
41
Shawn Green
40
Kirby Puckett
36
Geoff Jenkins
38
Stan Musial

June 12/13, 2010 - Besides the 2 Grand Slams, he didn't do much else, so he isn't in the upper echelon. Highest FCB Point total for a catcher so far.

Looked up the game for exact numbers,

Alfonso Soriano August 13/14 - 4 HR, 1 2B, 13 RBI, 6 R, 1 BB, 1 1B, 3 outs

Total points: 36 points

EDIT: Opps, was working slowly on my iPad.

It is also crazy that he had 4 hits following those 2 games and 9 hits over the next three games total!
