Ahhh...I miss the good old days when None of the Above Trading Cards was a powerhouse. The 1972 None of the Above mini sets were some of the greatest sets around. I think I still have a Manny Mota...

From reading that article on Beckett, MLB's measure of "success" by Topps is purely based on how much money Topps gives to MLB. But then, people keep buying all these products they purport to "hate", so it's not like Topps is solely to blame on the state of the hobby. Busting a case of Tier 1 or Museum Collection and then bashing it online still means Topps sold a case. People actually have to stop buying the products for anything to change, otherwise it's just a whiny, vocal minority that is complaining (while still actually supporting the very company they are complaining about so vehemently).

But that won't work, guaranteed.

When the first gypsy queen took pre order, very very few dealers and distributors ordered it because the hobby didn't need more retro products.

So what happened? The product blew up, not because of content (fake jewels anyone?) but because it wasn't made in quantity.

What people can't get, ESPECIALLY collectors, they will pay crazy for even if it's a dog issue.

Bottom line, competition is needed in the baseball card company landscape.

And sadly the sole body capable of allowing for competition happens to be a government endorsed and accepted monopoly.
