Does anyone else see this hurting card shop owners?
Yes, kids make up a very small amount of revenue in sports cards shops. They spend much more on Yugioh, gaming, etc.

Warren's All Stars said:The more I think about this the more I hate it. Exclusivity works in small markets like NBA & NHL. I don't think it'll go over well in baseball. I also think there will be alot of disappointed devotees of Upper Deck, and that many of these collectors may give up on the hobby.
I remember back in 1981 that the Courts ruled that Topps had a monopoly, whatever became of that?
I think two MLB licensees was perfect.
True. But I don't think the UD Diamond Club members do.Rudzud said:But hey, its all about the children right? Kids do all their shopping online now anyways...chashawk said:This.Rudzud said:Okay..okay...

I'll bet those guys spend more on the hobby every year than every kid in this country.
Yup. UD has Jeter and Ichiro and Junior that I know of.jubei777 said:yeah, variety definitely spices things up. i'd be curious to see for any UD exclusive contracts, when they'd be up. same deal is playing out with UD and Panini for basketball..

subject to change said:This move seems to defy logic on so many levels that I've lost count. This may very well mark a new low point for the hobby. The late 80's/early 90's may have had some horribly overproduced products, but at least there was a variety of manufacturers and reasonable price points. The quality of Topps' products has been atrocious, with uncreative designs and recycling 'throwback' designs like ATFF, T206, T205, A&G, Cracker Jack, etc. I can only assume it will get even worse by eliminating the competition.

Brett Keith said:I don't remember that last time I opened much of any Upper Deck baseball products post-2004, so won't change my buying. Besides, Donruss/Panini still makes baseball cards, something tells me we haven't seen the demise of Upper Deck baseball products. So basically...yawn. All I wanted was to get rid of exclusive prospect deals that keep players out of Bowman products.
