I browsed to see what cards were given away of Pedroia so far, and came across this:

2006 Topps Autographs Dustin Pedroia

http://www.toppscards.com/Trade/CardSearch.aspx --> Type in "Pedroia" --> as of right now, 9 total have been found, and the bottom 2 are an autograph with a picture.

I won't pretend to be a Pedroia supercollector, but as a player collector, I'd like to think I had a good hold on the number of cards he has. The card is not listed in Beckett collections, and I had never seen it before.

Can someone please tell me that they have seen a copy of this card before? I have yet to see the 2005 Bowman Sterling MLB Logo Patch Autograph #DP Dustin Pedroia, the 2007 Exquisite Collection Rookie Signatures College Ties Autographs #BP Travis Buck/ Dustin Pedroia (and parallels), and the 2007 Fleer Autographics #CA Dustin Pedroia. I know that I have at least seen every other card listed in Beckett, minus a few of the 1/1. This Million Card Giveaway is the first time I have seen the 2006 Topps Dustin Pedroia Autograph. Have I missed something so obvious?

Some of the cards are supposed to be from their vault.. I noticed that some of the 2001 topps look different..

I've been trying to trade my 1989 Topps George Brett for one of these to see what they are.. no luck as of yet.

So the "vault" includes cards that weren't even ever released? How could my mom throw out a card that I never even had a chance to own?
Cards your mom threw out is a totally different insert set.

YOU KNOW
This whole million dollar giveaway promotion made me realize what a great set Topps base is. I want to get all Miggy cards (golds, coppers, blacks. platinums) from it, and maybe even try a set or two (I was thinking of 08 blacks) or maybe even a vintage set

They may be using that tag line there, but the actual insert set in the product are cards like these:

...and these are the cards referred to in the stated odds on the back of the packs.

I'm aware of the insert set. Opened a box of jumbos myself.

What I'd really like to know is how a code I insert could unlock such a card as discussed in the OP, when it is not an original Topps Baseball cards, that Topps bought back, if that card is actually a card that was NOT released, and doesn't exist according to any checklists.

Faulty advertising? Yes.

If Topps bought back all cards that my mom could have thrown out, they wouldn't have bought back a card that WAS NEVER IN CIRCULATION!!!!

chashawk - Not at all directed at you. Pissed, but not surprised that Topps would do this.

The concept of "buy backs" not being "bought back" is so old. It's been discussed that most buybacks are actually unreleased stock (as I would imagine every non base card in this promotion to be).

I'm not sure what exactly you're pissed about, but my guess is that this is the '52 Rookies auto that someone entered into the database incorrectly.

Well, since Topps has been sending out Redemption Replacement autos that are made specifically for replacing redemptions, I'd imagine they are unloading everything else that they were using for that.

Pedroia did not have a '52 auto, only a base card.

There is a picture of it, it's a 2006 Topps autograph. He probably just returned them too late after packout for them to want to risk putting him in.

Aha! Nice picture there.

So you're pissed that these never went out? I would be psyched if I redeemed that card, but to each his own.

Ha. I did NOT get this card. I would also be psyched. More just pissed that it's another card to chase that will be dated 2006, and shows up in 2010?

A likely scenario, but does that make it right for Topps, as he wasn't listed in the checklist, and wasn't listed as a potential autograph pull on the box, to call it an original that they bought back?

Did you see my response? A lot of people believe most modern buybacks are warehouse stock. I don't even see why it's really an issue whether or not they were truly bought back.
