Are you suggesting that Topps still owns the retail boxes that are sitting on the shelves at Walmart and Target? That's what it sounds like you are saying, but I don't want to assume. From my perspective, the retail boxes on the shelves there are owned by those retail outlets, and once again, Topps doesn't have anything further invested in helping them move other than the hopes that they continue to buy those blaster boxes in the future.

THey are owned by distributors as far as I know, and the stores get there money when the product is sold.

Its called consignment guys, walmart lets topps sell product in their stores, the only time topps gets money is if
a pack is bought at the register. If its stolen walmart doesn't owe anything, if its ripped open walmart owes nothing.
This is how it has been for a long time. Different for hobby shops, they buy it and own it. If walmart doesn't sell it
then topps makes nothing. Have you been to a walmart recently? HUGE amount of 2010 topps. Believe me they
want to sell all of that. and by the way check out the blaster boxes..NO AUTOS and NO GU.

If that is the case, where do the distributors such as "Legends" fit in the picture?

Just like with soda, an independent distributor stocks the shelf for BigBox retailers.

Topps has already sold the product. Just like online delaers, they buy the cases, and sell the boxes. If they can't sell them, they are stuck with them.

Distributors that sell to retailers repackage the unsold product in variety boxes.

They are the middle men, but they don't go out and buy the stuff from topps, that would be foolish. You think topps sends their own guys around the country to put topps series 1 on retail stores? Someone has to do it, they may get a cut but it its topps getting the bulk of the money and I can assure you they only get it when it sells. Have you ever wondered why walmart doesn't give a crap what goes on in this section? Have you ever watched the distrubutor cleaning up the isle of all
the ripped open and stolen cards? He isn't cussing under his breath, he is putting them back into boxes and shipping
them back to topps. If the product sucks topps eats it, has been like that forever, beckett (not the mag) but another
company is just hired to put the cards out on shelves and take inventory. This is what keeps the retail market legit, if it
sucks you will be getting it back......to think if hobby stores had the same power?

The real money maker is topps selling autograph-less and jersey-less packs for 3 bucks a pop. Driven by the hype
machine that is this promotion. Hey its a day later, has anyone here pulled anything decent online?

Kevin, reread this post and you'll see exactly what I was getting at when I say your very jaded in your view of this hobby and have a very pessimistic outlook on everything. Especially with your last sentence. It's too bad you come across this way on the boards b/c you have always been a good guy to trade with and help others out.

And yes, many decent cards have surfaced. There are 2000 prize cards and a full year for the promotion. That only allows for 5.5 Prize cards a day. You can't expect to see everything in what amounts to just a little over 2 weeks so far. Actually, you should expect to see about 12-13 of them so far, and I'd venture to say they've given out more than that so far based on the cards I've seen on there.

I would just like to see that someone real got a nice card. For all we know topps is slowly listing the good cards as
redeemed and is just going to keep them. I know a lot of collectors have done this promo, has any of them got
a great card?

Do you think a card has already been assigned to a code or does it randomn generate a card after you entered it ? I opened up a rack pack box and all the redemptions were 1979 Topps.

The codes are not tied to a particular card. It is completely random. That 1979 you got yesterday would be a 1987 today.

Back to the topic at hand...my "This Card Unavailable" went live yesterday...

1956-BB-TS1-81A-NA_F_285x412.jpg

And these are the two cards drawing the most trade interest for me right now...
1952-BB-TS1-229-NA_F_285x412.jpg

Shockingly, less than 792 1989 have been redeemed...this being the only Johnson rookie.

Mike, I'm looking for 55s and 56s. would you be willing to do a trade for the westlake and any other 55s or 56s you have? I can give the same back for them if you don't have any particular attachment to the players you have. I think I have an extra 55 Mayo, Trianos and Frazier and and extra 56 Blaire something or other. LOL If you are interested I can give you the details. Bill

And ---- Kevin ---- confirmed cards anyway that I can tie to people: 52 Runnels $250 here on the board and 58 Mantle All-Star on the CU boards. I haven't come across anyone who hit the bigger cards at this time.
