you can clearly see the s in the window of the e, yet the s is full. did they use 2 name plates for a lettermen set?

I've never actually believed nameplates to be from only ONE nameplate.

It doesn't surprise me that they would have something like this pop up, either.

It's just more "player worn" crap. Since they're not game used, they most likely have a giant stack of jerseys, each of which he wore for 5 seconds. One of the reasons I have zero interest in relic items anymore.

I can't remember where I saw it but they showed a picture of one of the rookie events where they were wearing a jersey that had the standard patches on them but also several duplicates safety pinned on the shirts to give them more "player worn patches". Don't assume for one minute all these patches were originally part of the jersey they put on.

While the practice has been going on for years, it shouldn't stop hobbyists from getting a little irked each time an event brings the subject back into the current attention of the hobbyists population. I don't understand why people become so incredulous when collectors get upset about this. It's a valid concern, regardless of the fact that the practice has occurred for years.

My theory is that they had a custom jersey with nameplates thumbtacked on the back so that they had enough for at least 17 full nameplates from one wear.

As others have pointed out - since these aren't actually "Game-Worn", Topps has dozens of jersey's from the premiere and therefore dozens of nameplates even if they didn't resort to tacking on extra letters.

So that's not a surprise at all........to me the "big story" here is that for this to have occurred - there was actually quality control at Topps and some people showing common-sense.
I think of all the complaints (especially odd things with letterman cards) and it makes me think there are many other ways that Topps could have handled this (or have in the past)- it would have been easy to cut the E without any of the S, but then it wouldn't have fit in the window and looked bad. Once cutting the E, they then could have just went ahead and include the damaged S.
To me it's a positive that they took into account everything available and seems like they tried to make the best 2 cards they could.

as far as I know, this is topps first year to carry more than 2 jerseys per player
