THANKS TOPPS
That's the smarting thing you've said since coming here!!

And I agree.
Thanks Topps!! :)[/quote:1sw4bs2f]
I sincerely believe that someone who buys a high end product should be getting high end cards. It's that simple.

I have no problem with topps inserting nice cards to value boxes, but when it's a superfractor, or when there are a ton of high end cards being found in value boxes, it starts making hobby boxes look bad, and that's where a ton of people spend their money. I just Topps should stop this insanity.

I want to conclude by saying Congrats Russ, but don't insult my intelligence "the smartest thing you've said".

1. Despite being sold in a retail environment, the Bowman Chrome packs are in fact hobby packs.

2. Topps doesn't care if you're mad.

Topps is probably using this thread and ones on BO to show its retail partners how much value they have put into their retail products and how much excitment they are generating for the retailers.

Threads dedicated to how awesome retail boxes are and what amazing hits they get and how people are combing the hills trying to find more is a Topps wet dream.

I am sure Wal Mart is going to keep squeezing Topps to add more and more value to retail so people get ready I am sure it won't stop soon.

You do realize that the packing of this stuff was done by random, right? It just stands out when it happens to be top tier guys. As Chas said, the Bowman packs are Hobby.
This has been discussed numerous times the past few weeks. Get over it.

Edit: Fixed typo. The keyboard is my nemesis.

The only thing I don't get is, why are these selling at Walmart for $10.98?
NOTHING else in the card section of my Walmart has these 25% off stickers on them, and these would sell as well at $14.98

By the way, Walmrt has nothing to do with topps whatsoever. These are all stocked/controlled/sold through distribution companies.

Walmart rents shelf space, that's it.

I was talking with the owner of the card shop I go to about these, and the fact that these are flying off the shelf, will make a business case for next time they do this... The success of these will produce more of the same in the future..

As long as the hits in all hobby packs conform to the odds printed on the back of the pack there's zero reason to complain. Topps has offered 1/1 hits in their retail products ever since they had 1/1s... way back in 2004. There's no reason for Topps not to offer hobby packs in retail outlets as long as people understand what they're getting.

People who buy hobby aren't better than the had-core or casual people buying retail. The last thing the hobby needs is a snobby "elite class" with a heavy feeling of entitlement.

I definitely agree that one shouldn't bust wax if getting damaged cards bothers him/her that much...BUT damaged cards have ALWAYS been around since cards have been around from ALL manufacturers, it just comes with the territory.

You know, after some thinking I have a few things on my mind right now:
1) Topps, how DARE YOU put some of the best cards in your products in some of your worst/most low end boxes.
2) So now I don't know how I would feel about buying a hobby box of either topps chrome or bowman chrome, because apparently all of the good cards aren't even in there! So hobby must be stuffed with base or crap prospects!
3) This, coupled with the current Heritage problems, creating different products and removing them constantly(National Chicle, etc.), along with the regular consistency through the years of pulling damaged cards (which just pisses me off) has made me realize that Topps, you have problems, and before I spend any more money on your products, you better fix your problems.

I am not going to buy any more Topps products until they fix at least the two main issues:
1) I believed that if you spend $60-$70 on a product that you should have a decent chance of pulling at least something. If Topps is willing chance that one of their superfractor autos would be picked up by some kid who could potentially just throw it away or damage it, it shows to me that Topps doesn't care about their customers, and Topps definitely doesn't care about customers who spend thousands of dollars a year or more on their products.

This is based on opinion, but I firmly believe it: Topps, your first main issue is that all superfractors need to be in only hobby boxes, not value boxes, not retail boxes; if someone wants a shot at a superfractor, they should only get it from a hobby box.

2) Damaged cards has been on the rise while customer service has been on the decline, and if you want customers to handle the insult of a damaged card or the disrespect of a rude associate, you should at least have given them an overall good product.

If you want my business Topps, you need to change those two things; I swear I'm teetering on the edge of boycotting Topps.

THANKS TOPPS

Yes, and in 2012 the Value boxes will be void of big hits

I can also almost guarantee that "kids" and "casual retail buyers" are buying 5% or less of these value boxes.

"almost" ;)

But seriously, when's the last time you saw a kid buy sportscards?

At my Walmart, they are interested in the gaming stuff, period.

I can vouch for this.
I don't buy retail very much anymore due to rampant pack searching in my area. I bought a value box last week (Alexi Colome base chrome auto), and it's the first I've bought in months. Kids mostly buy the gaming stuff, but they tend to be looking through the football when they do go "sport".

Are the football worth taking a shot at? Granted most of the supers have been found, but still could yield color autos.

Football has two special edition refractors, Newton and Gabbert, a code, and Topps base packs. I picked up a couple of the football value boxes, and the best thing I pulled was a Cam Newton gold Topps parallel. No Chrome in them.

You obviously no nothing on how retail stores operate. I spent my entire life developing products for stores such as Wal Mart. I have been to their headquarters many times getting products approved to be placed on their shelfs. They are all about value addition and how to distinguish themselves from their competition.

Why do you think there are exclusives for Target and Walmart made by Topps, especially if Walmart had nothing to do with it.

You don't know what your talking about here.

While retail exclusives are store-directed, they are stocked by a third party. The exclusives are there to keep the stores actively interested in alloting space to that product over something else (like As Seen On TV Pillows).

Edit: So what Chas is trying to say is that it's not likely that WalMart is who is plugging to get big hits into these boxes.
