there's been quite a few empty seats at Jeter's games in the first week or so. Only the Astros and Blue Jays home openers were sellouts. Jeets couldn't even sell out Yankee Stadium on the last Yankee Stadium home opener of his career.

When the yanks make their final visit to stadiums after the AllStar Break attendance should pick up. Begining of the season besides opening day how many stadiums sellout anyway? Not many.

I'm not a fan of Jeter, but it doesn't bother me. I don't dislike him but feel like he's criminally overrated and has been for years. But if teams want to do this then good for them....if they don't then they shouldn't feel obligated to.

As for current players, I can't think of any right now. One of the main stipulations to these victory tours, from what I can tell, is loyalty to a larger market or historic city/team. I do feel like if Pujols had retired a Cardinal then he certainly would have had one.

I am pretty indifferent on them. For guys like Mo and Jeter, consensus HOF guys, sure.

I think it will be interesting 2 years from now when Papi is done in Boston. I think he will want a tour. But, will he get one?

Players could just avoid it altogether and not announce a season in advance that it's going to be their last.

I think he will:

1) it'll be big news when he announces in whatever year Spring Training that he's entering his final
season

2) it's now commonly expected to have farewell tours and be lavished with gifts at every final city stop

3) many New Englanders have spread out across the country -- usually because they get sick of the winter weather or crowding -- so there are red sox fans everywhere and NESN certainly helps keep the far-flung red sox fans addicted to the team

4) east coast baseball bias adds the red sox to overrated teams

He probably isn't in the top five Yankees of all time (not much of an insult when you think of who is on the list), and may not be in the top ten.
And who's ahead of him?
1) Ruth
2) Lou Gherig
3) Mickey Mantle
4) Yogi Berra
5/6/7) Jeter/Dimaggio/Whitey Ford

Jeter's atleast 7 on that list, and considering he's 8th, and might get to 6th, on the all time hits list, by season's end he may move up a spot or 2.

Rivera is definitely above Jeter

Rivera is the greatest closer of all-time but closers play so little that Rivera's contribution pales in comparison to Jeter's.

What are we talking? 10 minutes before each series? Who cares? It's fun to see what the teams come up w, except when the As steal your idea.

Jeter is a legend and would probably get the tour if he was on any other team as well.

Curious to see what the Red Sox give him.

I'm going to agree. Jeter contributes day in and day out. If anyone has benefited for the Yankees it's Mo. Not saying he's overrated at all but he definitely had more save opportunities than someone like Trevor Hoffman, due to playing for the Yankees.
