Re: OFFICIAL- Vintage Pickup Thread.

Minpin - awesome 55's. Amazing how affordable & great looking they are in that mid-grade. How close are you to the set?

The T3's are on their way to BGS. I know I'll catch hell from a few guys for that. I contacted all 3 major graders, there was only 1 fit to deal with IMHO.

I've had very few of these over the years, never realized how coveted they are until recently. They have a sheen to them like real leather. I had 4 really low grade cards in the collection, which I sold raw on the computer. Big creases etc. They went sky-high.

Nice Fisk!

I have a few 59 Topps to scan (Jensen, White, Wertz) when I am feeling a bit better.

I have the best low grade Sammy White collection on the boards 8-)

a few reasons jeff:

a) sgc would've costed 5x as much as bgs

b) I don't care for their numeric system much

c) I've been thrilled with the BVG sales so far.

d) PSA & SGC gouge on T3's, plain & simple. BGS says what's the difference, no more work involved. They just charge a few extra bucks for the oversized case. BGS, in fact, is dirt-cheap at all levels compared to the other 2.

Bornagain NICE PICKUPS love those 70s cards!

Commenting on the bolded statement.

I disagree that they are cheaper on "all levels". Last month SGC ran a $5 special on cards under $250.
that included autographed rookies, such as Bowman Chrome. If BGS ever wisened up and dropped
the faust $2 auto surcharge, then id agree that they'd be back in the discussion. But that $2 "hit"
adds up pretty quick.

My error then, but I was strictly speaking from the vintage mindset. Fact is that BVG will grade a monster card like a Goudey Ruth for the same rate as a 77 Reggie Jackson.

I've never submitted a modern card to any grading service personally.

Nice Mantle, Danny!

N172 Massachusetts born (Lowell) player #2 arrived today:

Also added a type card I have wanted to add to the Sox collection for a while now. Turns out this one was available on a dealer's site that I visit frequently. Go figure. ::facepalm:: :)

Re: OFFICIAL- Vintage Pickup Thread.

The N172 was an SGC 20. I broke it out and put it in a 15 pocket page along with the other one. I plan on having this project completely in binder pages.

:)

If it were possible, I would put my Sox type card set in a binder, as well. I would need some crazy custom made pages, however. :) My LaRoche collection is entirely in binders, as well (including Sweet Spots, UD Black, etc.)
