To get entered..

Post your most memorable box break. I'll pick names out of hat Sunday afternoon for the gift card.

example:

Many moons ago I was busting a UD product and pulled a redemption (before redemption's were common) for a Hank Aaron hologram insert set in the card shop. It didn't take long to realize I had something ,because of all the low ball offers the adults in the shop were giving me for it. My neighbor ended up buying it from me for $175. I used the money to upgrade my Dale Murphy collection at the time. My neighbor received the set 6 months later and most of the cards were in horrible condition. It was my best pull in the early 90's by far. When collecting was fun (even though I sold it...lol)

(use it at FCB's new Box Shop)

Nothing really special, but after months of pestering my parents, for Christmas they bought me a case of 2005 Donruss. I didn't really pull anything too exciting, but I had a blast opening packs all day and sorting the cards out for the next few days.

I don't bust much wax at all.
Less then 5 boxes a year.
NEVER had a huge pull to get excited about.

Best times busting wax was when I first started collecting in 1987 and my father and I would rip and put sets of 1987 Topps together.
Fun Times!

(I once owned 88 1987 Topps Barry Bonds RCs. ;) )

Thanks for the contest my man.
Love the new site. Hope everyone is checking it out!

My most memorable box break was a box of 2007 SP authentic. I got through the whole box without hitting anything of note. On the last pack I pull a redemption and I'm like "great, what crappy redemption did I pull as my last hit." I then read the front and lo and behold it was a Jeter/Clemens dual on-card auto! Definitely my favorite pull of all time.

My most memorable would probably be sitting with a good buddy of mine who got back into collecting cards with me in 2004. We would buy beef jerky and a bunch of those random mix boxes of retail. Nothing really special about the break except for now I will occasionally buy beef jerky when I buy packs just because it makes it feel like it did back when I was first getting back into it. I have flashbacks of it all of the time.

This is a football break but back in 2006 I was at a show and broke a box of Topps DPP and pulled a 1st & 10 Autograph of Terry Bradshaw (redemption). Pack odds on that was 1 in 10,000 or higher. Then later at the same show I busted a box from another dealer and pulled a 1st & 10 John Elway auto.

Spent the car ride home trying to figure out the odds of pulling two of them out of two boxes in a row using our Algebra II education. We ended up calculating "1 in a lot".

Mine is a box rip story.

Busted a box of '07 SP Authentic after getting back in the hobby for the first time in 10+ years. Pulled a funny looking redemption card and had no idea what it was until I posted it on BO forums.

A few weeks later, received this in the mail ->

1991 Donruss Series One

second to last pack from the bottom, upper left corner... Jose Canseco Elite.
i carried that around in one of those 1" screw downs and showed EVERYONE
that rare card that was INDIVIDUALLY numbered to ONY 10,000!

To THIS DAY, that is my "favorite spot" to pick a pack from

edited to add: wow, was that REALLY 20 years ago now? wow.

I remember busting 88 Donruss with my grandpa looking for Mark Grace rated rookies. One day we went to a shop that was in Orland Park and bought 3 packs and hit 2 Graces. I shot through the roof

I loved 2007 SP Authentic. I busted a ton of it. Can't beat those on card auto's.

I remember being uber jealous of one of my friends. He pulled the Cal Ripken Jr Elite Auto out of packs he had got from the drug store. He wasn't even really in to cards ,but I could never talk him into trading it to me.

In 2008 I busted a box of sterling and one of the boxes had:

Greg Halman Red refractor 1/1
Lars anderson black Ref
Posey Base
Longo ref auto
Quinton Miller Gold ref auto

It was one of the best box breaks I have ever had.

Nope, definitely can't. The Letter autos were pretty cool too. My favorite year for SP authentic though was 2004

I remember busting 07/08 Bowman Chrome and pulling a Yi Jianlian gold ref auto redemption and a Durant rc /1999. It was exciting to finally get a big hit for once.

Thanks for the contest.

I saw an "Autobilia" pack on HSN one year and begged to have it for christmas. It was about 250.00 and came with 20 packs with an auto in each, a signed baseball, signed basketball and a bunch of inserts. My dad sat with me while I opened the packs and even opened a few with me. It was the first and only time we broke a box together. Ive tried several times since then, but the sports card world turned him off and he's put it all in storage and wants little to do with it. If I won the gift card, I would buy a box from FCB, keep it until I see my dad again in April and bust the box with him.

My return to the hobby was in 2005/06 and I decided to come back and gamble with high end.
1 case of 2005-06 The Cup Hockey
1 case of 2005-06 Exquisite basketball

The Cup hockey I pulled a dual shield auto that sold for $3800
Exquisite I pulled the Chris Paul RC Auto /99 that sold for $3500

Needless to say, I returned to the hobby.

Mine was from 2001. After leaving the hobby for a few years I returned in 2001. With the excitement the Pujols and Ichiro brought to the hobby at that time, I bought a box of Upper Deck Rookie Update. Being a cardinals fan I was hoping to pull a Pujols rc. About half way through the box I hit a Pujols/Delgado/Abreau winning materials gu card. Needless to say I was thrilled. A few packs later I hit the Spx Pujols auto redemption and then on the last pack of the box I pulled a Sweet Spot Pujols rc. This was by far the best box I have ever opened and the most memorable. I was hoping to pull a Pujols and ended up with 3. I still have all of them in my pc.

My Story,

2010 Bowman Platinum,

Sad to say that i have only busted one hobby box of wax my entire life! It didn't go well either....at first! I only bought it to put a set together and my hits were as plain and crummy as could be. So I had one card left and it was the boxtopper redemtion. I was pretty bummed out about the cards I got and asked my wife to scratch of the card. (You know hoping somehow she would have better luck than me.) So I sign up on Topps and punch in the code and ...

Unlocked a printing plate auto of Dodgers Prospect Josh Lindblom! Gotta love a good woman!

My most memorable is probably one that worked out much better for my friend.

About 6-7 years ago in my best friend's shop, I'd bust just about anything he got in. There was a box of Fleer something with 24 packs, 12 per stack. I bought the whole left side of the box and got nothing but the 1 per pack cheap inserts so I stopped. Another friend of mine walked up and took the top pack of the other stack and pulled a Jeter Rookie of the Year Auto something that he sold on ebay for $350. Of all the boxes my friends and I have opened over the years, I still get reminded about that one!

Thanx for the contest.

My most memorable box break was a 2004 Donruss Elite Extra Edition box I bought from the LCS. This was right after the rumor of "the MLB hologram sticker to the far left of the box was a hot box" got circulating on the Beckett boards. The LCS had a bunch of boxes and I grabbed two, one with the sticker more to the left than the other. The first box was decent but the "left sticker" box was a hot box and the first two packs had a Nolan Ryan auto #/10 and an Alfonso Soriano 1/1 auto. I was pretty happy.

Thanks for the contest.
