Man do I love this thread. This is what collecting is all about. You could pick up almost any card shown here for next to nothing and I love it! :D Another one I love from the decade.

My 1st pack of cards was 1988 Score. A friends mom bought them for me while we were running errands with her. I just remember my friend treating 88 Score like they were Woolworth cards. Back in 1988, How was Score's release accepted and how much did they promote before the release ?

It was a huge deal. It was promoted heavily. The packaging, coloring and card stock was totally different from anything being used back then.
Now the overproduction....

The difference between the 1986 Topps Traded Barry Bonds XRC and the 1986 Topps Traded TIFFANY Barry Bonds XRC:

The Traded version has two stars in the lower left hand corner on the back of the card, in the pink border.

The Traded TIFFANY version has no stars there.

The surface is glossy on the Tiffany version as well (and more yellow, in my card), but if you need a definitive answer, look for the stars.

The first two scans are the front and back of the Traded version, the third and fourth scans are of the Traded TIFFANY version:

That 88 Score pack lead to me acting like I was Jeff Treadway for a whole summer because it was the only Braves card I pulled and back then we only got Braves games so a connection was made....

Set I may have opened the mostduring the 1980's was 1989 Donruss with 1989 Scoremasters being my favorite oddball set. Its crazy to think how inexpensive it is to get the Scoremaster cards signed now. Only Puckett, Griffey, and Ripken are the toughies.

Gotta love some of the obscure back variations. I just finished sorting through a bunch of duplicates to find these 1989 Donruss back variations ("Leaf Inc." with or without period along with "Denotes" featuring one or two asterisks in the top right of the stats header):

INC / *Denotes*

Just need the INC. *Denotes variation.

i started collecting in 1986, so the cards of the 80's have a special place in my collection. i love picking up old rack cases and searching for racks with rookies showing. as for singles, here are a few of my faves which i have scanned...

I know that Ty already showed this earlier, but this is the one that I pulled out of the only 1st series pack that I ever bought. My name, my temper, I carried this thing everwhere. I don't about everywhere else, but taping down the borders wasn't uncommon in my neighborhood, especially on 1st and 2nd series cards.

I can remember buying tons of 1988 Topps rack packs and even opening a couple of boxes and never putting together a complete set. I still have incomplete sets of 1987-1993 of Topps in binders. I've been thinking of picking up a case of '88 or '89 Topps for me and my kids to rip through and try to finally complete some of my sets.

if anyone wants a couple thousand 80's cards, pm me

People feel the same way about 80's cards as they do about their kids. They wouldn't take a million dollars for the ones they got but they wouldn't give a nickel for any more.
