The people of Miami will now understand what the people of Chicago have experienced these last number of years. Right about now Ozzie's kids will start tweeting about what happened to their Father and how unfairly he was treated, re-kindling the angry mob once again. (at least that's how it went in Chicago!!)

He played the "Sammy Sosa" langauge barrier card. What a crock of $%$#%. No way he had a vocabulary malfuntion with terrible statement like "I love Castro"! What a cop out. He deserves all the backlash that he gets.

Im not defending Guillen's comments but what are you talking about the "Language Barrier Card"? Are you refering to the article that states he spoke in spanish in the press conference? I dont see how that is a crock because it was known he would speak spanish since the people he offended and apologized to are a spanish speaking community.

I think he is referring to Ozzie's assertion in the press conference that in the original interview there was difficulty in translating his answers and that what he actually said (or meant) was that Castro's longevity has surprised him given the bad things he has done. It is difficult to believe that Ozzie's original statement about Castro could convey that sentiment in any language.

Am I missing something here? Is Ozzie Smith not entitled to his own opinions?

Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification and I agree with your statement.

He is in the grand scheme of America.

But being a representative and employee of a company (the Marlins), they also have the right to punish him if what he says/does harms the image of said company.

Right... He stated that he was thinking in Spanish and talking in English and that is why his statement came out wrong. I'm sure all of the latino reporters in the room who are predominantly bi-lingual saw right through that excuse. I can understand a translation malfunction with a complex phrase or thought process but a simple statement like "I love X" is not a phrase that would be prone to such a mistake. IMO, it was a cop out and detracted from his apology.

Absolutely he is. And the people who hear his comments are entitled to express their opinions regarding what Ozzie said. Freedom of speech is about freedom from government censure of speech. However, you are not free from counter speech and the ramifications from exercising your right.

He said Ozzie Smith, not Ozzie Guillen. I'm not sure what was intentional or not, but now I'm confused.

I didn't notice that. Well then it's probably a joke.

Who cares what a manager or athlete says, even if it's ignorant? Nobody is interested in their personal opinions.

Guillen is an idiot. I almost lol'd watching his press conference with the "language barrier" excuse. That said, the man is entitled to his opinion.

He's entitled to his opinion and the Marlins are entitled to fine him or suspend him and the Cuban heritage Marlins fans (and anyone else with a brain) is entitled to boycott the Marlins as long as Guillen is the manager.
