The whole comment please. I said if they came defensive which also means rude.

If they were completely nice and friendly and refunded me the 43 cents id be fine with that.

I'm not purchasing an item on eBay to let them deliver it to me and make me pay even if it's a small amount. You call that positive? I don't even if it's a small amount.

Defensive does not mean rude... Rude means rude... and no I don't call it positive but I sure as hell wouldn't leave a neg over a 43 cent mistake... I prob just wouldn't leave feedback. But if I were to leave feedback and I got the card in good condition I would leave pos but put something about what happened in the comments and prob ding them on the shipping fees DSR...

You must be one of those people that think feedback is everything

Was it a negative transaction if I had to pay for my own package upon delivery? That's a simple answer. The answer is yes. I'm going to leave a negative if my transaction was negative.

Doesn't matter if it's ten cents or one hundred bucks.

All this is predicated on the fact that the seller was either rude, defensive, inconsiderate or anything of that sort and I would assume 99% of seller would just refund that and it would thus be a non factor

I wouldn't do anything as some post offices don't agree on items..

I sent a package thru my post office to Hawaii.. when it got there, they owed something like $0.20.. The person I sold it to didn't want to pay the $0.20 so they sent it back to me.. and I reshipped it to them for the same amount in a new envelope and it worked fine the 2nd time..

The amount of time and energy some of you guys waste for $0.43 is amazing.. Package was delivered with no problems..

How many times have you shipped an item, where maybe your customer had to pay for the extra and didn't send you a note..

Just remember what goes around.. comes around!

Good luck..

Great post

$1.43 postage doesn't even cover 1 ounce at a parcel rate, even through Paypal shipping.

Cheapest shipping option through paypal is $1.69.

Sounds to me like the PO messed up.

Agree with Pinbreaker here, pony up 43 cents, send the seller an email letting him know that there was postage due, and go on your merry way.

It is not about a mistake, but how the seller handles that mistake and the subsequent follow up. The average buyer is probably not expecting Nordstrom service most or all of the time, but there is a basic expectation for most buyers and that is to get what was advertised (both the item itself as described and condition of said item), at the cost quoted and timely. That is not a lot to ask of someone who is asking for your money in return. There are just a lot of people who really don't understand the seller/buyer relationship and who actually don't know how to sell. Those sellers "deserve" poor feedback if they can't handle a simple transaction properly, even if it is over $0.03. It's not about the money, it's about taking care of their business. Hopefully they learn from the interactions and emails, but if they continue to be poor sellers, then they need to learn from the poor feedback or find a new business.

accidents happen but your leave neg and ding DSR attitude is part of what is wrong with eBay... Its only 43 cents... A small mistake is not worth a neg...

I've had sellers try to send packages of cards to me as Media Mail. Then it arrives to my door and there is postage due. (They're not supposed to send it Media Mail as this is supposed to be a bulk service, I believe)

Good point about media mail.I had a member here send me 3 cards in white envelope.I see a notice in my mailbox and pick up cards. Was shocked I has to pay a dollar or so when weeks earlier someone else mailed cards my way in white envelope, and no postage due.I went ahead and paid postage.Notified seller, said he would mail extra cards, but never did.Don't think I left feedback.Seems like it cost $2 to send 3 cards in white envelope.

Ask them to refund your $.43 and leave positive feedback with maybe 4 stars on shipping. Sounds like the package should have arrived fine and it's just an overzealous Postal employee. It costs $1.69 to ship up to 3 ounces and that's WITH tracking, so I don't see why your small lot should have been $2.43.

You're assuming seller used Paypal shipping.I still get cards with USPS/higher postage shipping on occasion.

Some don't use PayPal and go to PO. I'm assuming the postage due normally occurs on PP shipping as the PO weighs it and some sellers, especially small-timers don't have scales. I think it's at least $1.69 for bubble mailer as someone else stated.

I would mention to seller, wouldn't worry about the refund of .43.

LOLOL, the avg buyer on ebay is 15. using his dads accts, and decides not to pay half the time.

Ebay has become a house of thieves for buyers, which is why many sellers have become a-holes.

It's a 2 way relationship, both parties need to be profressional, and with ebay having the deck
so heavily favored in the hand of the buyer, it should be easy to understand why sellers can sometimes
react in the wrong way, just cause they feel they are being screwed again.

I have had several packages come over the years, with .10-$1 still owed.

I normally just pay it and move on. On occasion, if it's a guy I know, or I know has been around, I let them
know, in case it was a mistake, hopefully he can get it fixed before some fool screws his dsr and paypal holds his
money for a month, over .30 cents.

This hobby, I love it, but it kills me.

Same guy will buy a $500 box for a $200 return from topps and do it year after year.

And then want to ruin a guys life over .30 cents(most likely a dumb mistake or even worse, a usps mistake, which happens all the damn time)

Crap people, can't we all just try to be decent to each other.

I actually have not sold anything for probably 5 years or more and it was before you were blocked from leaving negative feedback for buyers. It seemed that out if every batch of items I sold (which was never more than 50 or a 100 on a real big listing period), there was going to be anywhere from 1-3 buyers or more who didn't pay, took forever to pay, would complain about my MO policy (even though it was clearly the only payment I accepted (also before the forced paypal payment option) or was in some way another problem buyer. It wasn't a huge percentage and I can guess it has probably gotten worse. I can understand this and empathize with it, as it always seemed that trouble found my listings when I did sell anything. In the end though, it was not that big of a deal, a minor inconvenience to realist an item and I never lost anything as a seller and although my buyer experiences (prior to paypal protection) were much worse, even those have been few and far between over the last 15+ years.

Ebay works great when everyone is playing by the same rules, but there are enough buyers AND sellers that have to mess it up for all of us.

I think your final statement is the truth, it's a shame.

I have been using ebay for 16-17 years.
As a seller, I get non paid weekly. People return items, because they have lost value, monthly(under a different excuse)
Many times they win big $$ items and see how the next few sell and decide to whether to pay. I've waited 8 days to end up losing $100+ many times.

As a buyer, I have had very few bad experiences over all those years. And the few that went bad, ebay covered me.

While our ebay experience, paints a vastly different picture, it sounds like we are both good guys, that wish everyone else out there, played by the rules.
