Bagwell for a scrub

Larry Anderson a scrub? C'mon....those 15 games he pitched more than made up for trading Bagwell. ::facepalm:: That trade will always bother me.

As for historical transactions, the Sox sold Tris Speaker to a Little Rock ML team for use of their facilities during Spring Training. Luckily, the Sox brass smartened up and re-purchased his contract.

Deadline deals and salary dumps can definitely skew trades. For me, a truly bad deal is when it is neither and in that case I'll go with the Cubs trading Lou Brock to the Cardinals for Ernie Broglio.

Recently? Simply two-fold.

Delmon Young for Matt Garza and "2008 Team MVP" Jason Bartlett.

AND

Adam Jones, Chris Tillman, and Whomever for Eric Bedard.

I've always thought the Richie Sexson for Junior Spivey, Craig Counsell, Lyle Overbay, Chad Moeller, Chris Capuano and Jorge De La Rosa. Then, pretty much ALL of those guys were used as trade bait over the next few years (save Cappy): and the returns on that were Tomo Ohka for Spivey; Dave Bush, Zack Jackson (he of the CC deal), and Gabe Gross (traded for pitching prospect Josh Butler, who has sucked less year) were got with Lyle Overbay (in addition to clearing Prince's path); and De La Rosa was traded for Tony Graffanino. It was one of those gifts that kept on giving.

And what does everyone think of Sexson? just saying...

One good year of Doyle Alexander for some prospect named John Smoltz

Not really that bad, Doyle pitched like a stud after the trade to get the Tigers into the playoffs.

Worst Reds Trade: Frank Robinson to the Orioles for Milt Pappas (won AL Triple Crown)

Best Reds Trade: Lee May, Jimmy Stewart, and Tommy Helms to the Astros for Joe Morgan, Cesar Geronimo, Denis Menke, Jack Billingham, and Ed Armbrister (2 of the 8 starters for the Big Red Machine, a #2 starter, and two good bench players for a washed-up semi-star, a bag of balls, and some tacos).

Steinbrenner: You are Mr. and Mrs. Costanza?
Frank: What the hell did you trade Jay Buhner for?! He had 30 home runs and over 100 RBIs last year. He's got a rocket for an arm. You don't know what the hell you're doin'!
Steinbrenner: Well, Buhner was a good prospect, no question about it. But my baseball people loved Ken Phelps' bat. They kept saying "Ken Phelps, Ken Phelps."
