And then there's about 14 Mitch Abeita auto's that haven't gone anywhere yet. I suck at prospecting.

I guess I can also add these two to the list:

2004 Bowman Chrome DP Angel Salome Gold Refractor /50
2005 Bowman Chrome DP Nick Weglarz Blue Refractor /150

Again, they went from prospecting to obsession to own them all.

I had bought up a lot of kyle lotzkar back in 2007, had some blue's, gold's, ref autos.. also had a few matt laporta blue refs.. but I sold those when I pulled them.. I told people he would have inflated stats and suck in the majors.. at least i was right about that. Lotzkar would have been fine I think if he never had that TJ ...

Probably my Merkin Valdez stuff. Although I still pick it up, if it's ultra cheap.

I thought it would be interesting to start a thread about failure. Everyone is always showing off stashes of prospects who are on fire or on the rise, but you never hear much about the stashes that never worked out. Kind of like the gambler who never tells you when he loses $1000 only when he wins $500.

Here is mine. Started buying up Jeffress stuff when I got back into the hobby about 5+ years ago, and I am still waiting for a glimmer of success for this kid so I can dump some of his stuff.

I actively collect Jeffress, so you're not the only one holding onto his stuff. I just do it for my Jeremy collection, though, so it's not like I'm really prospecting his stuff. Same thing with Jeremy Barfield from 2011 Bowman (although I did well grabbing Jeremy Hellickson 2006 Chromes for 10¢ before he came up!).

My worst prospecting experience happened back in 1993, when I was buying Kirk Reuter RCs for well over BV. I remember paying $8 for his Select R/T RC, back when it was the hottest card on the market. You can probably buy all of them that were ever made fo $8 now.

You collect Jeremy Barfield? I wish I'd have known that, I just sold the Red 1/1 that I pulled last month!

Boston Red Sox pitcher Mike Rozier (2004 Donruss Elite Extra Edition Autographs) would be my biggest failure. Although I more than made up for it in that year with Nick Adenhart and Homer Bailey (both of whom I sold at or very near the apex of their values).

I'm also sitting on a ton of Sean Ratliff USA autographs. He could still make it, but I'm not sure how his eye is healing after getting hit in the face with a foul ball this past spring. My reasons for "prospecting" him were more personal though, as he played high school ball with a friend's son.

Not giving up hope yet but I have a Jiovanni Mier stash that isn't looking to good.
Hey, if you want an autographed ball of his, I have one. Certified. ;)

I will trade you a box of 80s and 90s commons for it. Then you can say you found payton rcs and other awesome vintage in there.

I can only accept 1990 Fleer Baseball commons for it right now. They're my main stash. Holler if you have any.

The good thing about being a crappy prospector is that I've made a LOT of people here happy...

Rafael Rodriguez

I have a few of these gathering dust as well.

Reynaldo Navarro and Josh Fields are my two biggest busts, Austin Gallagher is a close third, and I'm hoping Mike McDade doesn't make a fearsome foursome.

It's sad to still hold out hope but he's still young and plays once in a while. My biggest failure was a Carlos Gomez 06 BC orange refractor 1/25.

Don't worry about it, 1/1s are typically well out of my budget. I wouldn't feel comfortable spending a decent chunk of cash on someone I only collect because we share a name!
