I think when people - dealers or collectors, go out of their way to find you to make sure you get first crack at a card they have not because they will get the most for it but because they know you'll appreciate it more and they will still get a fair price or trade then you have hit that status.

Plus what grace collector said.

If you were a Ripken, Griffey or Nomo Super collector and saw a 1996 Sp 6 page fold out with 2 Griffey Promos attached you might stop and inquire. 99% would not even notice and keep on walking.

When Frank Thomas had his Chicago home for sale, I contacted the real estate agent and she sent me the laminated booklet pamphlet...I was in High School I think (when he got divorced)

I have a friend who I'd consider a Super Collector. She buys every Mike Schmidt card out there. She needs to have 1 of every one!

For any of those collectors, Griffey, Alomar, Nomo,Arod,Thomas,Jeter,Clemens and Ripken all are featured on the 97 SP.

I can put up additional scans if anyone wants them.

Edit: After posting this I noticed that the picture behind is that of Chipper Jones. I also noticed that while it shows Andruw with Alomar, he was actually paired with Jeter for release. Interesting...

Anyone who can successfully get Burbank to lower the asking price of a card they need for their collection to realistic levels is an obvious supercollector. If you can get them to give you a scan then you have reached god like status.

IMHO it's more than boxes of cards. After all, anyone with a large bank account can purchase tons of cards of a specific player. To me a "Super Collector" is that one person I think of if I ever have a question about a specific player. It's one thing to buy stuff of someone. It's another world entirely to take the time to build the knowledge.

Probably a more realistic look of most of these "super" collectors

A super collector is out to get everything of what they collect. Budget can't be too much of a problem. either.

In my opinion 'super collector' is a title someone gives you, not something you proclaim. It always irks me to see someone calling themselves a 'super collector' or someone saying "I super collect player X"...........

I too think people kind of have to think of you as a super collector. I am not sure it can really be bestowed. Its kind of like looking at yourself in the mirror and proclaiming yourself the sexiest person alive. Sure you may feel that way...but how many people would agree?

As for someone calling themselves one or even saying they super collect a player...I think its just used to help people understand they mean business. I still can't get either of the two card shops I go to to believe I am even a serious collector of Bagwell. But then again, I guess that is because everyone and their brother down here is a self proclaimed Bagwell collector. And my local shops don't even hold Bagwell items for me. It pisses me off to no end. I think the last thing I ever said about it was "Just remember...whatever he's paying...I'll pay more if I need it that bad.". But I pretty much just get singles and sets from them now. There are no rare Bagwells because I live too damn close to Houston. In fact, its not uncommon to go to a shop or show and see very little in the way of astros singles. They never last. Get scooped up too quick.

Good one.

Another good one.

Although... some people don't flash their collections as much as they could so you don't always know.

There is only one person in this world who can truly be called a Supercollector. His name is Baxter Cain, and he collects Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
