How bout this.

Everyone, list what they want fixed or changed. Go for it.

Get rid of the vertical and horizontal scroll bars on every post. Having to use the scroll bar to read each post (even those that are one line) is annoying.

I think you just hit on something....

Any way we could see the number of people in the chat area in that floating bar with the Chat link (ex: Chat (7 people in room) )? If people saw that others were there, that may draw them in. Right now, when I drop in it is totally hit or miss.

Thats a good point actually.

This board became boring (to me) quite some time ago. As others have stated, you see the same threads every day. I try to check out the first page every day, but I don’t post because I rarely see a thread that interests me. A typical check of this board shows:

  • The morning thread
  • Minor league performances
  • MLB daily
  • Prospect (guaranteed future-HOFer) of the moment
  • One or two “eBay sucks”
  • One or two “team collector”
  • One or two “player collector”
  • How much is this worth?
  • 90’s inserts!!!!!!!!!
  • Etc
  • Etc

You get my point. I’m not complaining, because obviously some folks (usually the same ones) enjoy these things. I’ve ignored FCB for months at a time however, and when I check back in I see the exact same threads started by the exact same people. Not sure what to make of that…it’s like a soap opera.

Again, I’m not bashing anyone or what anyone posts. It is what it is. It just seems (to me) that the baseball board as a whole has fallen into a serious rut.

It's in a rut, because certain people have found a niche that they enjoy to post in? Are you serious?
As someone else suggested, if you want to see more threads - make them. You can't force other people to NOT POST what they feel is "Hobby" talk. One of your examples is the morning thread... if you tried to put them (us) somewhere else, it'd take a ton of people off of the baseball boards. A lot of the morning thread members ONLY post in the MT.

I've actually wondered whether some specific people are being paid (not by FCB) to do this LOL

Some people do try to make names for themselves. JP, for example, is pretty damn good at what he does. If FCB is a good medium for him to further himself - what's the issue? Are peopl emad because THEY don't start the threads? It's not a race.

Is that good for the baseball boards, or is it only good for the MT? I have nothing against the MT - used to read it quite often, and I know Josh would just be crying all the time without it. But perhaps that is the answer to the question posed in the title - everyone is in the MT. Those people are still on the boards because they have that one place they can go - but the more open threads seem to have less participation.

Granted, I have not started threads myself, but unless you really want to see nice patch cards of a .156 hitter, not much point in me doing so.

It seems you took offense to what I wrote (it's hard to tell by just reading). The title of this thread is "Where is everyone". My post explains why MY board use has tailed off. No more, no less. Please don't take it personally...that wasn't my intention to offend you or anyone else.

Where you see a niche, I see a rut. A boring rut.
I'm just one person who no one misses when I'm not here. There may be other "old-timers" who feel the same way I do, however. Either way, it's not something worth getting worked up over. Logging off now...I have yard work to do.

Yeah, but the thing is you (and people with the same mindset) are concentrating on "There are threads we don't like" instead of "What can we do to get different threads started?" That's the beauty of a message board. as long as things are on topic - then they can be about whatever the posters in it desire. If you don't like the thread - don't post in it... but also don't try to find fault in people posting something that you don't partake in. If you think any large number of people are turned off from posting COMPLETELY because they don't feel like they would fit in the discussion, then that's a problem that can be fixed on the board's end. It's a personal issue.
Don't wait on people to make threads for you... make them yourself. It's about junk patches - then do it! People WILL read it.

Hell... try to make some FRIENDS. Most people here are friendly enough to support your threads, even if they have no interest in the topic. Just look at when I post my recollection maildays. It's always the same guys posting in them to support my pick-ups... but that doesn't make it bad.

Hey now, Adam Dunn is hitting in the .240s! Just joking around.

If you get a patch card that you want to showoff, please do! I enjoy showoff threads. I like seeing other collectors excited about their newest pick ups. I'm speaking for myself only, but even if I don't post in those threads, I read them. I like seeing other passionate collectors who get psyched about their latest pick ups, even if it's just a base card.

I can read between the lines when people express opinions. You think that nothing applies to you so no one cares for you (or misses you when you're not here). THat's absolutely untrue. The only person I have seen widely ignored has been miggy - but he relishes that! I read every post in the MT even though I am probably one of the most spare posters there... but I do know that they'd speak up if my name didn't show up in the "Logged in users" list.

You're suggesting that people should create more threads, but other people are suggesting that the boards be organized differently.

To me more threads without organization = mess because I'm definitely not interested in reading everything. But lets face it, most real collectors are among the most organized people on the planet LOL.

I know Gilmore wants there to be one huge board and I can see why, but there are naturally big downsides to doing so.

It is quite a coincidence that I have managed to collect 2 of the players most hated by their fanbase. And that Weeks has pretty much "Dunn" this year what Dunn did last year. I may just have to dig out some cards and start a thread for ya. ;)

All kidding aside, I love your enthusiasm for the hobby - no doubt the boards are better off because of it.

Except that by "more organization" it sounds like people want more subforums. When population is small - the last thing you want to do is spread it out. The complaints in here about the number of threads really seems like a lot of "Personal Problems".

I don't care who people collect. One of my PCs is Chris Sabo! Please do start a thread. I am interested in seeing your collection, even if one of them is a Brewer. ;)

Definitely very happy to see the Dunner turn it around this season. Whew.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate it! I truly love collecting and I enjoy seeing others who do as well.

I'm having issues reading the forum and can't seem to resolve them... Didn't get to put a screen shot up last night, but every post appears with scrollbars below the text portion (between the text and signature of the poster) and scrollbars to the right. In many cases it covers up the wording of the post and there is no way for me to read the wording as the right hand scroll bar is too short

I quoted the above post, since its an example of a post that I was unable to read. I could actually read the quoted portion of the post, but not what ozzy actually posted.
