Agreed. Beltre was a failed prospect (he was a huge prospect and was mediocre at best for his first 5-6 seasons) who IMO never got the appreciation that his subsequent performance warranted. He still has a reasonable shot at 3000 hits and 500 homers.
Beltran IMO is a HOFer, something I'm not sure other agree with.
