It depends. If it's legit and something held back for replacement, I'd be interested but only at a fraction of the price I'd pay for the real deal. But all these uncut proofs and stuff...not really interested. Cool, just not my thing.

I would like both I have a 98 bowman chrome anniversary refractor numbered to 5 I also have a blank back. Any rare set or card I want both.

I say both for example I have the 1998 donruss signature series autographs darryl strawberry millennium marks /900 and the century marks /100 but I found both versions unnumbered.

The question was would you RATHER the serial OR the unnumbered...

If money was no object I would take the pack-issued numbered version every time. But like most of us money is an object for me, so I'll often buy an un-numbered version since the numbered version is either a) so scarce I'll never see it, or b) so expensive I can't afford it. That way I pretty much "have" an example of the card in my collection.
Case in point is the 1998 Bowman Chrome Golden Anniversary Refractor /5. The Alomar is on ebay right now for $600 - after starting at $3K I think. Oddly enough the un-numbered version appeared at the same time, so I bought it for much, much less. When I turn it over I don't see the little "4/5" stamp on back, but that is a fair trade-off for saving hundreds and hundreds of dollars...
