As Verlander did last season, it is not unusual for a pitcher who has been a solid all-star type pitcher for a while to take a step forward and become a Cy Young-type pitcher (of course rarely is someone as dominant as Verlander was last year, but something similar happens pretty often.)

There's a pretty decent size pool of pitchers who IMO could take that step... who do you think will?

Matthew Cain.

Contract year, consistent high performer with no run support, you could add 5-7 wins to his totals every year if he had a better offense. this year it happens.

22-6 record. Cy Young. Goes to Boston in the offseason. Pulls a Lackey. :)

Ubaldo Jiminez will confirm everyone's suspicion that his 2/3rd of a season was a complete fluke by going 2-16 and end the season in AAA.

Barry Zito will actually finish the season breaking even at 12-12 with a sub 4 ERA, surprising everyone.

I have a feeling this is the year Gallardo finally puts it together for an entire season.
