Who is worse: Lackey or Burnett?

Yeah, I just don't understand how they can put him out there every fifth night. I would bet that 3 of the 5 AAA starters could pitch better than him.

I voted for A.J. for these reasons...

1. He is terrible this year, and was terrible last year.

2. He makes soooo MUCH MONEY!! last year, the year before, this year, next year, the year after.....

3. He has gotten lucky, because his team is so good. His numbers don't look as bad as they should. You can give up 7 runs and still come away with a W when you play for one of the best teams in the majors. PLUS, he has a cast of all-star defenders behind him helping keep him out of more trouble than he deserves. If he played for Houston, he'd be 0-20 with an ERA of 9.75.




Then I did a little research, and figured something amazing out. ALL of these things apply to Lackey too! :lol: That's amazing! But I had already voted. :lol:

I don't understand how they keep running A.J. out there every 6th night. Yeah, 6th night, because there are too many people in their rotation. It pisses their Ace off, but they don't care. They are paying both of these guys so much too much. A.J. is the 20th highest paid player in the league, and Lackey is 25th. That's so incredible to me. Verlander is 50th. Felix is 66th. Cliff Lee is 70th(!? his money must not kick in until later in the contract?). Weaver is 118th, making $7.3 million, less than half of either of the guys in the poll. Lester is at 157 and makes 1/3rd.


The more I research, the worse it gets.

2. Lackey has the exact same contract as Burnett. (8yr/82.5) Burnett's contract expires before Lacky. Burnett is pithcing to a mid-5 era in the third year of his contract. Lackey is pitching to a mid-6 era in the second of his.

3. Lackey's numbers (wins/losses) look better than Burnetts, yet he has much worse numbers (whip/ERA/strikeouts)

Also, Burnett may "have problems", but atleast he doesn't whine when his team doesn't make web gems to get him out of jams. Does Lackey even admit that he is part of the problem, or does he still blame it on his teammates.

And to your other point, I'd rather see Burnett every sixth day then Lackey every fifth.

Granted I don't see much of Burnett.....but it's hard to imagine him being a bigger *******.
On top of what may be the worst stats for any starting pitcher in baseball, it's really Lackey's demeanor and the look that he doesn't even want to be out there that puts him on top of any list like this.

AJ played a big part in helping NY win the World Series a couple years ago, Lackey helped the Red Sox win one in 07 when he pitched for the Angels(he was 0-1 with 6.00 era, would have been worse if Boston didn't sweep in 3)

I mean is it really worth trying to argue you that AJ is slightly better? That's like arguing over who you have a better chance of getting head from: Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan. In the end, it doesn't frickin' matter, they both suck!

They're pretty much equal. I'd give the slight nod to Lackey. I also have more compassion for Lackey because it seems like he actually gives a damn.

Back to my original post....

Burnett has two years left, Lackey has three. Thats the difference maker.

Seriously though, I'd have a hard time performing at my job if my wife was dealing with cancer, as Lackey's is. Burnett never has a reason for his poor performance other than not being that good.

The other thing that bugs me about Lackey is seeing him scream and show horrible body language after his players makes errors. Pitchers should never show that much negative emotion.
