I agree with this, although if it were a matter of placing a player on the team today, Sonny Gray would be a nice choice.

Just looked over the 2000-2010 Cubs drafts, here's the interesting names I found, with the year and round:

Colin Kaepernick - 2009, 43rd
Sony Gray - 2008, 27th
Micah Owings - 2004, 19th
Matt LaPorta - 2003, 14th
Tim Lincecum - 2003, 48th
Khalil Greene - 2001, 14th
Kap is from Turlock which is 10 minutes away from here. A lot of people around here said he was a much better baseball player than football player.

Interesting topic. As a Tigers fan, I couldn't recall anyone recently so I went digging. Back in the mid-1970s the Tigers stunk and routinely picked near the top of the order. In the 1976 draft, the Tigers drafted 3 players that were part of the core of the 1984 WS champions (Alan Trammell - 2nd round, Dan Petry - 4th, Jack Morris - 5th). For as good as the others were, the only future HOFer drafted by the Tigers that year was Ozzie Smith. Ozzie was drafted in the 7th round and when he didn't sign was drafted in the 4th round the following year by the Padres.

The Blue Jays I think lead the world in drafting guys who not only don't sign with them but go on to play other sports. Danny Ainge, Eric Lindros, Jay Schroeder, and many others that have obviously slipped my mind. I guess Ainge did sign but later realized ball is life.

I assume you're a Mets fan like me judging by your name and picture, yes? :p
If so, you'd be heart pressed to find someone better than Clemens

Why would you assume that? Haha ;)
And yes, you are right, Clemens is the biggest fish who got away (but I'm not too upset about that)
