The original Tek was NOT HOT when it was a new product. In fact I remember being surprised when the second release can out. I ordered a bunch of the new Tek, planning on breaking a case or two.

When the second release came out did the gold cards really sell for (or sell currently) as much as the Thome collector on eBay says they did?I have a hard time believing that.

While super-low numbering was just starting out and bringing incredible premiums, most people saw the golds as being #/600, rather than 60 cards with 10 copies (I think I have those numbers right), so pricing wasn't like it might have been. True, even though the net was exploding, few people really thought about getting a complete set of golds, and many seemed content with 1. Or 0.

Spot on. I worked at a shop at the time and we only had a few customers that were interested in it.

I vaguely remember purchasing 1999 Ben Grieve golds for around $15 or so.

Weren't Grieve cards very much in demand then?He really tailed off after a strong rookie campaign then.

At one point I believe I purchased the MLB Season Ticket just so I could watch Grieve and the A's

I would agree 100% for this area if the country The #/10 was really seen as #/600, and #/100 was the "magic number" back then. Tek golds sold for less/about the same as #/100 cards.
