It is wrong for a purchaser to lie to the seller about the value of the card. Period. A seller's foolish failure to find out the true value of his card does not excuse the buyer's lie.

Didn't the guy who got the "steal" on that Machado deliberately mislead the guy selling it? I thought that was why he was crucified over the whole deal, he knew it was worth a lot yet he wouldn't share that info when asked by the seller.
I don't mind when someone gets a good price. The only qualm I have is when someone gets a really cheap price and then re-lists same card for 3 times the amount they bought it for. I understand that everyone wants to make money, but you also have to think if the shoe were on the other foot, would you be pissed that someone else did that? My guess is yes, you would be. We are all in this hobby for the same reason, to collect cards/items of a player or players we like. Some are in this hobby to also make money, no fault in that at all. I could see trying to make profit on an item you pick up cheap, but to triple the price is just insane!
Nothing has changed, some people are still crying about something that happened months ago. No wonder so many ENTITLED player collectors don't visit the 90's thread any more. Some jackasses have turned it into a selling/trade thread.
That sucks when that happens. I'm all for helping player collectors out. I send free cards out and pm player collectors deals I find for their player all the time. I really appreciate the help as well, Gwynn545 sent me a message the other night that led me to a nice deal. People just shouldn't expect to buy a card for 5 bucks when they go for 20 dollars all day long. This isn't directed at PADRESFAN at all. But I used to see a lot of buying up cards by ridiculously outbidding people on ebay, and then trying to sell them to people at even more than what they went for on ebay going on. Luckily, that doesn't seem to happen as much. Still does but not as much.
I personally like when members offer to sell or trade Padres to me from the 90's thread. It only helps me out with my collection. I don't see the logic in not inviting that.

I hate when player collectors feel they are entitled to your cards for a cheap price just because they collect that player...
Regardless of whether you are the buyer or seller, it's irrelevant what the other party decides to do AFTER the deal finishes. If the other person can get more for a card, more power to them. If that means triple or more, so be it. I don't understand the above reasoning at all.
That is what PM's and the trade/selling forum is for. Fortunately not everyone is using that thread to pimp cards they want to sell, but it is quite annoying to most whether they say it or not.
I hate it when other player collectors send vulgar PM's then accuse me of bidding them only to prove them wrong and then get sent more vulgar laced PM's. Take your 'Truce' PM and shove it where the sun don't shine!

That's how I remembered it, I thought the guy that got the Machado in a pack asked if anyone knew if this guy was any good and how much the card was worth. The guy that got the "steal" knew but kept his mouth shut then asked if he wanted to sell it and the guy sold it to him for a few dollars. It wasn't clear that the seller owned a shop, it sounded like he was a customer in the first post and later it was claimed he ran a table at a flea market. I couldn't figure out why a guy selling packs would all of a sudden decide to open them especially if he didn't even know the best player in the product so it all seemed fishy to me.
I was upset with the OP that got the steal because he withheld information from the buyer, and then I thought he took advantage of the ignorance of the seller buy paying less than 10% of the value of the card. I was also upset with the OP because in my opinion it just takes one instance like this to push someone out of the hobby. Without new collectors there will be no one left to buy all our crap when we're done with it.
