Why do people still charge shipping on high end stuff?

This has always been something that I just can't figure out. Cards with bids/BIN over $150 and they still charge you for shipping. I mean, what's the point for charging someone an extra $2 when you just made $175? Just wondering.

Used to be that you could pay a few cents less to ebay since the s/h fee didn't count toward fees. Now the only thing that some sellers may be thinking is that they can get an extra $2, since the buyer of a $150 card likely won't mind paying $152 instead.

I think most sellers don't even think about it - they are either an all free shipping guy, or they have a standard shipping template that they are either too lazy or too inconsiderate to change for each individual auction.

I know I get kind of peaved when i'm paying $3000 for a card and i'm getting charged $7.99 for shipping.

I charge $2.25 on all of my cards. I dont care how much I sell the card for. Simple idea is that I have to buy an envelope and mail it - but I am not paying for that service and then paying all of my fees ontop of that.

If I want to attract more attention for a highend BIN, then I use Free Shipping. I also have perfect feedback (300+) and 4.9 ratings across the board. So I guess not too many people disagree with my shipping.

If a seller has a BIN of $150, how did they just make $175? Magic?

I was just tossing out numbers for an example, but I guess if you sold a card for $150 and got $175 I think that could count as magic!

What is $2 if you just spent $150?

Plus there is insurance on the item to take in to account.

You have no idea what they paid. Maybe they paid $140 for that $150 card and are already losing money.

Why would anyone change what they charge per item on shipping based off final value?

As soon as you start treating one transaction better than another, you will get a negative for the sale you don't "value" as much. All your customers have the ability to leave feedback, not just those that pay more.

I've always included shipping on higher dollar cards.
What I've done though is include the insurance at no additional cost. Not going to lie, I do that for my own protection, but the shipping turns out to be much more than I charged.

No matter what the final price is, I'm not really sure why I'd have to eat the shipping cost and be happy about it. I'm not a big business that offers free shipping on orders because there taking in 10's or 100's of thousand dollars a day.
That said, I did use free shipping for the auctions running this week.......so I'll see how that goes. Again, that has less to do with any generosity, and more so, looking to avoid the ass-hats that don't understand how the star system works or is set-up against sellers.
