Why does Topps continue to lie to us about FBCC

Im looking at a Matt Davidson 2010 Bowman Chrome and it says '1st Bowman Chrome Card'. Im also looking at a 2009 Bowman Draft Picks and Prospects Chrome card of Matt Davidson and that says '1st Bowman Chrome Card'???

There are several players this happens to, wtf is going on? Its not their '1st Bowman Chrome Card'?

They're not lying per se, they are just cluelessly slapping together Excel spreadsheets without referencing previous years' checklists. That is, unless something has changed since 2002. Looks like it hasn't.

Happily the 16U cards are easy to distinguish, they're the ones with the pretty sparkles and glitter.

I hated the WBC cards, but they did not put 1st Bowman Chrome on them... These 16u kids are going to get this one, an 18u, a collegiate, and their "actual" first I would guess...

I think this happens most of the time.... its 2 different products. Bowman Draft.... Bowman Chrome.

Its the same way for nearly every other card you guys bitch about as well.

Bowman has 3 seperate releases.... Bowman w/ Chrome, Bowman Chrome and Bowman Chrome Draft Picks & Prospects.

So a player will debut in Draft... 1st Bowman Chrome..... later they might appear in Bowman w/ Chrome and/or Bowman Chrome... and those will be 1st Bowman Chrome as well... since its a different release.

I'd venture to guess that quite a few folks care. As time goes by and one or more of these players start to develop a huge following, more and more people are going to notice this issue (and care). Granted, it's a relatively small detail, but if a company is going to put something on a card it should be accurate.

Especially when all it takes is researching their own product lines to ensure accuracy. :lol:

It matters because people will get screwed and mislead.

Say Jon Jay becomes a star and his cards skyrocket and people decide to invest/ buy his rookies. If they see his 2008 BC card first, they will assume thats his rookie card since it has the FBC logo on it.

Unless they prospect, they wont know he had a 2006 BCDP card and thats his rookie card.

From my understanding, and getting Topps definition of your question, all players have it broken down like this:

#1 - If the dude is playing ball somewhere, they'll make a rookie card - there's rookie card #1
#2 - if they make it the big leagues, they get another rookie card for being in the big leagues.
#3 - they get a 3rd year rookie card because they didn't do well their rookie year ( just made that up, but probably true).

So by definition, a player will have 3 years worth of "rookie" cards - MLB must have changed the definition; either that, or it's just "cooler" for Topps to give 3 rookie cards.

Oh, I'm not arguing that Topps is messing it up or not, but I for one rarely look for the "1st Bowman" or "RC" on a card. I think anyone that is actually collecting knows what they want and the weight of those labels means little.
