LOL, Vlad is not that good. He is not a very valuable player anymore.

because he is a DH. I hate to see it as well.

not that good he had 12 straight seasons batting over .300 until last year where he hit a career low .295... and he had 15 homers in 380 at bats... To me that is still much better than 95% of the players in baseball. There are several AL teams right now projecting to have a DH who is much much worse than this

And this is relevant how? Vlad WAS good. Vlad is not very good anymore and is only getting worse going forward. He will want more money than he is worth.

I just said because he is a DH- I didn't say he couldn't hit. or he was a bad player.

There are just other guys on the market who have more value right now because they can play a position in the field unlike Vlad.

I'll agree with this but saying he is not that good is pretty crazy. Guy does his thing year in and out

batting average doesn't mean much. Obviously you have no understanding of that.

Vlad had roughly the same production as Andruw Jones did last year. While neither can play D like they once could, Jones is considerably better than Vlad at this point. Vlad is also an injury risk. Jones signed for 500K. I think Vlad would probably laugh at that type of offer.

I would rather have Vlad than Nick Johnson....I wished the Yankees would have made Vlad an offer.

That might be the dumbest thing i've heard in a long time.

"Yeah he hit .300, but come on, he didnt hit 50 HR!!! He sucks!!"

::facepalm::

I guess the Mariners didnt get that memo when they signed Chone.

He has a high BA, but doesnt hit for much power, so, that doesnt mean much right?

OBP is much more important. See the second sentence of my original statement.

I'd love to have seen the Sox sign him to play left instead of Cameron. He may not be what he once was, but he's gotta be better than what we got out of Manny in the field.

Hitting .295 means Vlad still has some skills and while he'll hack at anything from his toes to his nose, he does have a .386 lifetime on-base percentage.

His on-base percentage last year was .334, which was lowest in his Major League career. I tend to believe he was dealing with injuries and is getting older, so he wasn't as patient [relatively speaking] and he just wasn't right at the plate.

False. Mike Cameron is one of the most underrated players in the game. Terrific defender, draws walks, hits for power. Sadly to say, because i loved watching him play when he was in his prime, but Vlad is done as an upper echelon player. As a Dh, which is all he is now, he just isnt a good enough hitter any more to be worth a decent contract. He'll sign up somewhere and put up okay numbers, but will be overrated by his batting average. Hopefully he can regain some health and improve, take some more walks and hit for more power. A .300 batting average is pretty worthless if the guy isnt drawing walks (which Chone Figgins does, which is why he is so good) or doesnt hit for a ton of power (I dont think his body will recover enough to do so).
