Anytime a Bud Smith reference is brought up, it's typically regarding a confused understanding of the luck that a no-hitter can bring.

All of that said, let's remember...we've seen Strasburg in the AFL. And to put that into perspective...a "non-prospect" by most named Matt McBride is leading the league in OPS.

You cannot discount the AFL as a barometer on a prospect. It is an important show case and it has many top minor leaguers in attendance. Typically this is a league where pitchers get murdered, and Stras is faring quite well.

I'm more interested to see how he fares in full season ball. The traveling, the schedule, the season length...

He'll see Washington this coming season I would assume, but for me, the best thing about the AFL is finding players to dump due to AFL hype.

The afl was a good indicator of Tommy Hanson's mlb success.

The guys on the MLB Network analyzed Strasburg and his pitching motions..

He had the same motion as some pitchers that did well, but got hurt do to their pitching style.. They were referencing the "Flying W" and showed some MLB pitchers that all had the ""Flying W" and that most of them got hurt.. (I remember Kerry Wood as one of the pitchers they compared/overlayed him to)

Should be interesting..

charlie, it was a bar
Not according to this article ;)

http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2006/jul/14/tracking_down_brien_taylor/

Always heard the bar brawl thing was a rumor, but idk.

Thanks for quoting me on that! I posted that a few weeks ago about Taylor. mailing him a card in the next few days on Brien Taylor Ln..

Also, Matt Anderson didn't have hype even close to Strasburg. Actually Anderson was a concession pick as the Tigers couldn't afford or get BorASS to come off the $$ for J.D Drew. Also, the Space Needle (A.k.a the Little Unit, the big bust, whatever you want to call him, Ryan Anderson) was too Expensive or was controlled by a D.B of an agent.

Gilmo, I never said that Stras and Smith had the same amount of hype. Let me know where I said that in this post. All I am saying is that Stras can become a bust, as any pitcher can. I am simply saying that they are and were both hyped. I am talking about the potential MLB performance success and not success. I never said in this post that they had the same amount of hype. To compare Stras' hype to Smith's would be dumb. I am comparing them based on MLB performance.

You sure do have an odd memory of Bud Smith.

Surely you realize you can't compare the two based on MLB performance because one doesn't have any.
