Though the current form doesn't bother me in the slightest, I would be all for a move similar to what the NHLPA did. A player cannot appear on a card until they play an NHL game. Simple as that.

Only a portion of those playing in the minors actually make it to the Majors, so you'd be giving them short shrift.

But a player who never makes it to the majors has no need for a major league card.

Actually you're only denying minor leaguers from appearing on a major league card. I don't see why this is so important.

There are two different segments of the hobby as I see it. One with minor league players appearing on minor league cards and one with major league players appearing on major league cards. I don't see what's so terrible about this. Collectors should embrace the player, team and league on the baseball card and buy what they like most.

If I may introduce my thoughts using football cards as a cross-reference :

Cards are made of guys when they're drafted, regardless of if they play all 16 games, or don't even make practice squad. Their draft year (or first signed year) is their rookie year, and that's how I would like to see all sports.

It's very simple that way, and it's how I like it. This of course is just my opinion based on how I like to collect. I can definitely understand the points everyone else makes on their preference though.

With the MLB seemingly trying to make the draft more popular, this would be a great help. If people know that the first round picks in the 2009 draft have rookie cards available only in 2009 products it would raise a little more interest in the draft. After the first round they can wait either until the guy does something or until he makes his major league debut to issue his first card.

bottom line

there is big demand for major league cards of minor leaguers

And I don't like that one company is the only one who can do them. Not that I have a problem with topps, because I don't. But I do believe that competition is the key to good products.

Agreed. When an exclusive is done on the large scale, the hobby and collectors are held back.

No offense, but if your not happy then stop collecting. Or if you are not happy with a certain players cards dont collect him. Its actually a simple concept.

I don't get why multiple cards have to be produced of players who haven't even had a major league at bat yet. There was no need to place Morrison in 2008 Bowman, 2008 Bowman Sterling and 2009 Bowman. Just makes no sense. Maybe sometime in 2010, hell get called up and then have a RC logo in Bowman 2010...and again in Bowman Draft 2010 and once again in Sterling 2010 in a dual auto or a Game Used auto.

MAKE 1 CARD PER PLAYER PER BRAND UNTIL HE REACHES THE MAJORS.

1 Bowman card...1 Sterling card. Pretty simple.

I am with you. I know Wes Hodges is in 07BC and 08 BD. He is only in the draft because he played in the Futures Game.

I think this line is what I don't understand. Why can't "minor league" cards of minor leaguers be just as much in demand?? What's the difference? A card is just a card.

While the "RC" logo has made things a little more confusing I do think it has had a positive effect on cards having more value. Many times in the past players had their hobby RC and the other year cards were ignored. But now even after players have had their hobby RC when their "RC" logo cards come out they are worth more than they would be without the logo. Prince Fielder 06 BC auto sell well, Beckham SPX and Red Hot Rookies are selling well, Longorias "RC" logo card sell well etc...

Now as for Topps and UD playing under 2 sets of rules I agree with most that it is time for them both to have a level playing field. I also think one way or another pretty soon this will happen.

The RC logo is good for everyone. Everyone profits. There is no downside.

The down side is the unfair advantage given to topps that allows only them to produce prospect cards. This leaves us with pretty much 2 product lines for prospect cards.

If topps is not challenged, they do not make the best product they can. Take away that prospects clause from topps, or let upper deck do it too. That will greatly help the world of prospect cards.

I don't think the hobby is a joke by any means. It is a hobby ment to be fun, and sometimes we take it too seriously. Calm down bro, and collect what you like.

Don't worry about anyone else.

If you're worried about what a card will sell for, then it is less of a hobby to you, and more of a business.

Yeah, if I didn't like it so much, I would get so frustrated...I just think it could be so much better.
