I don't hate the Marlins and for the people who want them contracted...look at how many championships they've won with their current model: have a crapload of prospects, win a title (buy a couple of vets for the run) and then blow it back up and start over. They've won two doing this. It's a way of competing, albeit the most extreme. The Rays run a cheap organization WAY better than Miami.

I do have an issue with them promising Reyes that they would not trade him and that no-trade clauses are just not their M.O. That being said, buyer beware for not having it in the contract, though, and future free agents will be very hesitant to sign there, anyway.

Let's not act like Haren sucked in Arizona. He was an All-Star in both of his full seasons in Arizona with 37-30 record for them. Yes, they did give up too much for him but it was nothing like the Richie Sexson deal, Haren at least played and played well.

Not gonna disagree with you there about Haren's performance on the team.

It wasnt because Haren is/was a XXXXty player that people didnt like it, it was because they made another deal where they gave away too much.

Are the Mets still paying Bobby Bonilla? Trade that contract for him

Sent from my SCH-M828C using Sports Cards by Freedom Card Board.com

Yeah he is on their pension plan for like 9 more years I think. A little over a million a year lol.

I'm a big fan of his, but I wouldn't want him on the Cardinals. Here's how the Cardinals OF should look:
2013
LF Holliday- Perennial All-Star under contract through 2016 w/ Team option for 2017
CF Jay- Future Gold Glove Winner & Leadoff Batter w/ .305 AVG. Won't hit free agency until 2017
RF Beltran- 2012 All-Star (though I see a '12 Berkman type year possibly) Contract up after 2013.

2014 and Beyond
LF Holliday
CF Jay
RF Oscar Taveras

Unless 1 of the 3 current OF is magically able to play Middle Infield, then there isn't room for Giancarlo.\

EDIT:
If that weren't an issue, I would deal:

Lance Lynn
Matt Adams
Tyrell Jenkins
and Jaime Garcia

I have a hard time believing that the Marlins will end up trading him in the near future.

Even if they do, some of the proposals in this thread are laughable.

He is just turned 23 years old and has 93 career home runs already.

Let's not forget he is under team control for another 4 years.

If the Marlins trade him for anything less than a Bundy/Machado or Shelby Miller/Oscar Taveras or Profar/Olt type of deal I'd think they would regret it completely.

This guy is a once in a generation talent and I really hope they don't trade him the same way that they gave away Miguel Cabrera.

I would take Stanton's ceiling over Machado, Taveras, and Profar's ceilings.

With the way FLA and DET love to trade, I wouldn't be totally shocked to see him go to the Tigers.

Something like a few of Porcello, Dirks, Garcia, and Castellanos would probably get it done.

I'd love to see him on the Red Sox but what we would have to trade to get him would make us a worse ball club in the future.

Anyone know what kind of package they are looking for, just top prospects or a combo of prospects/proven ML's?

Actually he is on their payroll for another 20 years I believe at 1.8$ mil a year. He just bought a plane and put it in one of our hangars at work

Why would the Marlins accept that crap offer?

Unless those couple of prospects were Harvey and Wheeler, than I doubt that Miami would accept it. But hey, its Jeffrey Loria! Everything makes sense to him.

I don't know if I'd consider Harvey and Wheeler as prospects right now, I think it's pretty much a given they'll be up this year.

They wouldn't offer their 2 best pitching prospects for anybody, but Domingo Tapia? Or Jeurys Familia, a guy with a bit of MLB experience? And if one of the two prospects was Aderlin Rodriguez, well, so be it, as the Marlins might want a power bat or two coming back in return.

Point is, all the MLB-ready guys I mentioned still are under club control for years, all have upside, and all make less than $550,000 per...and we know money is always an issue with Loria...when he spends big, there's an ulterior motive, and winning on the field isn't necessarily it. Fielding a team of prospects for a few years and seeing if they gel wouldn't be out of his wheelhouse, especially now that he's already gotten his new stadium.

Niese is a serviceable No. 3 or 4 starter, Duda still has potential, Tejeda has potential...and all the prospects I mentioned have upside.

And if his counter was to demand Wheeler or Harvey, no harm, no foul, just tell him to go XXXX himself like he did to the people of South Florida......

As much as I'd hate to see Porcello traded to the Marlins, I would XXXX my britches if the Tigers were able to pick up Stanton.

If it were me, no prospects would be off-limits. None. I'd get a deal done, especially if I'm a team like the Tigers who could probably push it over the top with one more major bat like Stanton.

As long as Stanton stays healthy, I think he's the best bet out of anyone under 25 to hit 500+ career homers. Not to mention exceptional defense and arm, and respectable batting average to boot. Who WOULDN'T you trade for that kind of player?

This is how I feel about the Orioles. If Gausman could be traded, I would send Bundy AND Gausman among some others.

Wow. Would love to see him in a padres uni. It would take gyorko, liriano and one of the top arms though.

Padres can't even pick up a #3 starter. Our big splash was Jason Marquis. New owners sure care.

Bill Center wrote yesterday that Marlins reached out the Padres about it. If we could get him for Gyorko, Liriano, SP, RP, I say go for it. We could lock up Headley then there wouldn't be a need for Gyorko or Liriano. Stanton-Quentin-Headley would make for a nice punch.
