Bill Center wrote yesterday that Marlins reached out the Padres about it. If we could get him for Gyorko, Liriano, SP, RP, I say go for it. We could lock up Headley then there wouldn't be a need for Gyorko or Liriano. Stanton-Quentin-Headley would make for a nice punch.

No offense, but the Padres could offer their top 10 prospects and I still wouldn't take them for Stanton. They just don't have enough big time prospects to get a deal done for a player of Stanton's caliber IMO.

I'd trade Michael Pineda to the Marlins for Stanton. He's like an ace and has like, so many years of team control, it's like crazy. Maybe I'd even throw in that Jose Campos dude, or Manny Banuelos.

Can't really put a price on Stanton. The years the Marlins have control of him is very lucrative, plus he's a proven superstar. Would be a shame if he leaves Miami. IF they have any self-respect anymore they'd keep him because a bunch of prospects won't put people in the seats. His bat is worth the price of admission.

You obviously don't know shat about the Padres' prospects. Gyorko is a major prospect in himself.

I'm plenty familiar with the Padres system including Gyorko. Again, I wouldn't even consider trading Stanton for the entire top 10.

Stanton is a proven star with perhaps the best power in all of baseball. He showed last year that he can hit for average as well (.290), he's an excellent athlete with good speed for his size, and he has a strong arm. He is proven at the Major League level.

People overrate prospects these days. All signs would point that Gyorko will turn out to be a fine ballplayer, but even if he reaches his ceiling, he still won't be the player Stanton is. Prospects are potential. Even the "top" prospects rarely turn out to be true stars. Why trade a proven star (and long-term control of him) for a bunch of "could-be's"? It's not a jab at the Padres when I say I wouldn't take their entire top 10...it's more a praise to the caliber of player Stanton has shown he is when healthy and the value of the years of control of him his current contract provides.

Not the kind of prospect that would be the prize.

Not on his own. But the Padres have so much depth that they could package three of four legit prospects. Teams may value filling numerous holes on an MLB roster than say a Profar at SS and some others.

To be fair, Stanton was a prospect once. ;) And a second rounder, iirc...which is why a lot of teams this offseason are hesitant to pull the trigger on free agents tied to a draft pick. There are no sure bets, but plenty of ML talent can be had within the first few rounds.

With that said, Stanton is the best offensive player of his age in baseball. I'm not sure why the Marlins would even consider trading him. He is arguably the sole reason for anyone in Florida to go to any games this year. Without him, who do the fans want to see play??

The talent of a Stanton would take teams multiple top prospects and then some to get him. Is it worth it? To some teams yes, and to other teams no. Keep in mind that teams will have to trade at least their best pitching prospect as well as their best hitting prospect (and more). Assuming those players teams will have to trade reach their potential then it might not be worth making unless they hope to contend within the next few years. Top talent pitching is very hard to find and it seems less likely for teams to trade them.

I say the Tigers or Nationals should put together a package that Miami can't refuse.

Stanton WAS a prospect, but now he's a proven star. That's what I'm saying, why would you trade a young proven star with control over him for 4 years for players that you hope turn into that exact same player? You already have the sure thing, why trade him for a bunch of 'could be's'? It would make sense if it was to a team with a better package of prospects, but not for a team like the Padres, Giants, Angels, Indians, etc., none of whom have any potential superstar caliber players, in my opinion. Unless the Marlins are really just giving up altogether, I think it would take a top tier prospect and a good package of other highly ranked, high potential guys to even consider trading Stanton and his contract situation. Just my 2 cents.

Ryan (Ryan, right? lol...not too good with names)...I am not saying I wouldn't trade for Stanton, I'm just saying that if a team has to trade the farm to obtain one player then they better make sure that they are going to contend within the next few years. That's why I said I think someone like the Nats or Tigers should make an offer to Miami....if they had Stanton on their teams last year the Nats would be playing the Tigers in the World Series and the Tigers would have won it. But for teams in their rebuilding years? Might not be the way to go for them. Maimi will probably laugh at any offer that doesn't include 3 top 5 prospects so that is a big hit to a team that was looking for those players to fill upcoming holes.

Yeah I agree completely, it obviously has to make sense for the team trading FOR him. I'm just saying if I'm the Marlins, someone better be putting their best possible package on the table to get my up and coming stud who I have control over for the next few seasons. No reason to sell him low.

No reason to sell him at all, but nothing surprises me nowadays with what the Marlins are doing.

If they do for whatever reason trade him I hope they package Morrison along with him. Actually now that I mention it, I wonder what Morrison's trade value would be straight up?? I would love for the Red Sox to can the Napoli holdup and trade for some LoMo. Never hurts to have a 1B/OF combo who can hold his own with the bat. Seems like no player is off limits on that team.

I'd love to see the Yanks get him.

If I were the Yanks I'd start the package with:
Cano, Campos, Heathcott, Banuelos, and Bichette.

I would try to keep Williams and Sanchez but if they demanded either one then I might include one of them.

Agreed, I would offer Cano and Prospects for Stanton.

Sure, Cano only has one year left on his contract, but when have the Marlins ever kept a star for more than one year anyway? Heck, they'd probably trade him at the ASB for more prospects.

Stanton is too young for the Yanks to trade for him....maybe when he turns 34 they will pony up some cash. Can never have enough experience, right?

I don't think the Marlins would keep him until the season started - see Yunel Escobar. They took on Escobar to relieve the Blue Jays of some payroll and then immediately shipped him to Tampa Bay.

That above trade isn't a bad one though. Depending on who they got for Cano, the Marlins would really make out in that deal.

I agree with All The Hype though. If I'm the Tigers, I put a package the centers around Porcello, Garcia and Castellanos and I get Stanton. When your 3,4,5 hitters are Miggy, Fielder, and Stanton...that's 120 HR right there....

Yeah a trade with Cano plus two top prospects and then a couple mid level guys would be a great trade for both sides. Yanks would get a young controlled monster of a hitter plus the Marlins would get 2 top prospects and 2 mid level guys. Plus they'd be able to flip cano for a few top prospects as 2B is very thin around the MLB. So they could end up with 4 top prospects plus a bunch of mid level guys. Could really rebuild that organization.

A's can't afford him in three years. Phils won't get him, they don't have enough high-end prospects or cheap MLB Up-and-comers to offer and I doubt the Fish would trade him in the Division.

Arizona has enough Prospects, MLB-level players with Salary control to make it work but they have enough OFers as it is...
